Oro Valley, Arizona is one of the fastest growing towns in Southern Arizona. While entertainment in Oro Valley is still lacking, the shopping options continue to expand.

Oro Valley real estate may have slowed down in the residental market, but the commercial market is just starting to catch up with the growing population.

New OV Shopping center

A new movie theater, Wal-Mart, Best Buy come to the Oro Valley Marketplace, a new shopping center at North Oracle and Tangerine roads.

Retail store that just opened at the Oro Valley Marketplace include Best Buy, Olive Garden, Century Theatres, Tilly's, Famous Footwear, DSW Shoes, Dick's Sporting Goods, PETCO and McDonald's. Some online retailer let you purchase online and pick up in the store or have home or office delivery.

A new 176,000 square foot Wal-Mart opened October 29, 2008 at the Oro Valley MarketPlace, 2150 E. Tangerine Road.

12-screen movie multplex opens

Century Theaters at the Oro Valley Marketplace opened October 31, 2008. Located at 12155 N. Oracle Road at Tangerine Road, the movie theater features stadium seating, a self-service conession stand and 48-inch wide aisles. The Oro Valley movie theater will have 12 screens.

General admission movie tickets are $9 with shows after 6:00 p.nm. Show times on Fridays and Saturdays are $9.25. Matinees are $7 and start before 6:00 p.m. Children and senior ticket are $6.25. Monday admission price for seniors is only $5.

The other first run movie theater to recently open near Tucson is in Marana at the 12-screen Tower Towers near Continental Ranch. The other is the Harkins Spectrum 18 on Tucson's southside.

Oro Valley Greater Arts Council events for Oro Valley in 2009

Modern art and mountain views are the perfect mix for the weekend.

Open Studios Tour weekend, that is: Saturday and Sunday, November 8th and 9th, noon to 5pm. The public is invited to get out of the city space and take in the desert-scape at this 10-acre, northwest foothills live-work site of artists Aureleo Rosano and Angela Rose.  In their fifth year as fixtures on TPAC Open Studios Tour, these artists have not only constructed a new sculpture garden, studio, and gallery to delight visitors; but they have also invited artist Rebecca Bushner to join forces to give the viewers a contemporary art stop that is well worth the drive. Old Arizona Brass Band in Concert 

Enjoy Friday evenings with music featuring a variety of 19th Century National Airs, Quicksteps, Galops, Marches,Waltzes, Operatic Potpourri's, Overtures, Rags, including a number of vocal numbers featuring members of the band.
