Oro Valley: 12-screen movies multiplex opens Century Theaters at the Oro Valley Marketplace
Tucson South: Harkins Theatres in Tucson celebrates the Tucson Spectrum 18 grand opening. The new Tucson Spectrum 18 Theatres, located on the southwest corner of I-19 and Irvington, opens Friday, May 9 with a weekend-long grand opening celebration. Read more about Harkins Theater in Tucson, AZ.
Century Theaters at the Oro Valley Marketplace opened October 31, 2008. Located at 12155 N. Oracle Road at Tangerine Road, the movie theater features stadium seating, a self-service concession stand and 48-inch wide aisles. The Oro Valley movie theater will have 12 screens. Century Theaters sold its Tucson movie theaters to Cinemark, Inc. The venue sale included Century 20 El Con and Park Place movie theaters, Century Gateway 12 on N. Kolb and Century Park 16 on W. Grant.
The other north side first run movie theater to recently open near Tucson is in Marana at the 12-screen Tower Towers near Continental Ranch.
The other new movie theatre in the Tucson metro area is the Harkins Spectrum 18 on Tucson's southside.
UA area to get new 8-plex movie theater Sometime in 2009, an 8-plex theater will open in a new building east of the Tucson Marriott University Park. Constructed by the Marshall Foundation, the theater will be on the second floor of a three story building. The area is now a parking lot just north of the Main Gate Square complex.
Catalina Theater closed. This landmark movie theater has been at the corner of Grant & Campbell for decades. The busy intersection may clear way for renovation and possible road expansion.
Grand View closed. The only indoor movie theater on Tucson's southside closes at the end of September. The Grand View Theater, 265 W. Valencia Road, will close after 26 years. In April 2008, Harkins Theatres will open an 18-screen cineplex at the southwest corner of Interstate 19 and West Irvington Road.
