Hoo Hoo Gam Ki Museum Exhibit

Located on the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community, Scottsdale AZ. The exhibit is called: "FINDS IN THE EARTH: A ROAD LEADING TO THE HOOHOOGAM" The exhibit focuses on the interpretation of recent finds from archaeological excavations along Alma School Road. The exhibit honors a long-standing community partnership between the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community and the Maricopa County Department of Transportation. The Museum is located at 10000 East Osborn Road on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC). The exibit and reception are sponsored by the Hoo Hoo Gam Ki Museum and the Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT). The exhibit was designed and installed by Archaeological Consulting Services, Inc. of Tempe AZ (ACS). ACS performed the archaeological mitigation work along Alma School Road. This fieldwork was conducted in full consultation with the SRPMIC, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Arizona SHPO, and the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation. Completed in 1994, prior to the reconstruction of Alma School Road between McDowell Road and McKellips Road, the $415,000 archaeological mitigation program was funded by MCDOT. Scottsdale Historic Museum- The Little Red School House located near the center of the original Scottsdale, the school house is a reminder of the early days. Open Wed-Sat, 10am-5pm and Sun., noon-4pm. 7333 E. Scottsdale Mall in the Civic Center Plaza, east of the intersection of Brown Ave. and Main Street. 945-4499.

Scottsdale Center for the Arts offes a free art gallery, but there is a charge for performances. Call 944-ARTS for upcoming events. Located in the Civic Center Complex, at 7380 E. Taliesen West Architectural cente, one of the last structures designed by the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright. It houses a great deal of history and information about the man who designed it as well as information about architecture in general. Built in 1937 as a winter home for students at Wright's Wisconsin school, it opened six years later. Docent apprenticeships., desert walks, summer tours.
