The Doobie Brothers Release New Song “Lahaina” Featuring Mick Fleetwood, Jake Shimabukuro, and Henry Kapono

Four-time GRAMMY Award Winners and Rock & Roll Hall of Famers, The Doobie Brothers, have released a brand new single “Lahaina” along with a music video to provide aid and support to Maui amidst the fires that have devastated the community.

The star-studded “Lahaina,” featuring Mick Fleetwood, Jake Shimabukuro, and Henry Kapono, is the group’s first release since their 2021 album Liberté, and will serve as a beacon of hope to the victims and a commemoration to the town that has been ravaged by the disaster. Proceeds from the writing of the song will go to the fundraising efforts on behalf of the People’s Fund of Maui and The Doobie Brothers will also be donating $100,000 to the organization which provides direct financial assistance to over 8,000 Maui community members displaced from the devastating fires in Lahaina and Kula.

“As our people of Maui piece their lives and homes back together, we’re grateful to have the genuine support and beautiful music of The Doobie Brothers,” said Dwayne Johnson, co-founder of People’s Fund of Maui. “A longtime resident of the island, Pat understands the Maui community and the tragic devastation its residents are bravely overcoming. ‘Lahaina’ is a song that both captures our aloha spirit and will help to make a real difference in the recovery.”

“It was such an honor to be included in this special song by the Doobie Brothers for the people of Maui. Music unites people and strengthens communities. I hope this song will bring comfort and healing to all those affected by the Maui wildfires,” Jake Shimabukuro stated.

While an international tragedy, the Maui fires hit close to home for The Doobie Brothers. Co-written by guitarist and vocalist Pat Simmons, “Lahaina” holds a special significance to him. Having called Maui home for nearly 30 years and raising his children and grandchildren there, Pat has witnessed the profound impact of the Hawaii fires firsthand. His emotional tie to the community, combined with his musical prowess, has led to the creation of a song that is both hopeful and a means of driving meaningful change.

“I’ve been a resident of Maui for 28 years now and I wanted to make a tribute to the place I’ve called home for so long and help bring awareness and donations for the recovery and relief efforts there,” said Pat Simmons. “This song is a look back at what Lahaina has meant to all of us. So many people have walked the streets of Lahaina and have felt that aloha spirit and we hope that one day we will walk those streets again.”

Pat co-wrote “Lahaina” with the help of fellow Doobie Brother Michael McDonaldwho has had a residence in Lahaina for over 15 years, and John Shanks, a longtime friend and collaborator of the band who produced the song, as well as The Doobie Brothers last album, Liberté. Other close friends on the track, who also have deep-rooted connections to the island, include rock and roll icon and fellow Maui resident Mick Fleetwood on drums, whose restaurant was destroyed in the fires; ukulele virtuoso and multi-award winning Hawaii’ native Jake Shimabukuro; and Grammy-nominated musician and Hawaii’ native Henry Kapono.

With an illustrious career spanning decades, The Doobie Brothers are no stranger to crafting music that resonates with audiences worldwide. “Lahaina” not only captures the scenic beauty of the town but also serves as a tribute to the resilience of its people in the face of adversity. The lyrics, imbued with the band’s personal experiences and emotions, are a testament to the unbreakable spirit of the community. The Doobie Brothers’ commitment to this cause goes beyond just the song; it’s a testament to their unwavering dedication to a community they cherish.

The Doobie Brothers would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of their partners involved in the release of “Lahaina” including:

About Jake Shimabukuro:
Over the past two decades, Jake Shimabukuro has proved that there isn’t a style of music that he can’t play. While versatility for any musician is impressive, Jake showcases his transcendent skills as he explores his seemingly limitless vocabulary – whether it’s jazz, rock, blues, bluegrass, folk, or even classical – on perhaps the unlikeliest of instruments: the ‘ukulele. Called “one of the hottest axemen of the past few years [who] doesn’t actually play guitar” (Rolling Stone), Jake Shimabukuro has become one of the most exceptional and innovative ‘ukulele players in the history of the instrument—an artist who has drawn comparisons to musical titans such as Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis.

Jake Shimabukuro recently released Grateful, his most personal project to-date, featuring twenty-two collaborations of a who’s who list of Hawai`i-based musicians from Henry Kapono to Kawika Kahiapo, Brother Noland to Raiatea Helm, John Feary to Bryan Tolentino and John Cruz to Kimié Miner. This collection of songs is performed live, in studio with Shimabukuro’s friends, contemporaries, mentors, and heroes – all kanikapila style in a return to his roots. A portion of the proceeds will go to the People’s Fund of Maui.

Reviver Records Recording Artist Brooke Moriber Makes Her Mark in Country Music

From New York to Nashville, Reviver Records Recording Artist Brooke Moriber Making Her Mark in Country Music

(Photo: Jeff Fasano)

Born and bred NYC native and current Nashville resident Brooke Moriber is returning to her roots this winter for two special shows. First, the burgeoning young Country star will be playing on Thursday December 7th for the “Nash Meets Patch Honky-Tonk Showcase” presented by Planet Of Sound Promotions at 89 North in Patchogue, NY on Long Island.

Then after the new year, see Brooke perform as part of the new bi-monthly “Nashville in New York” Songwriters in the Round series, which will also feature Jeff Cohen, Kara DioGuardi and members of the 615 Collective including Sarah Darling, at the legendary The Bitter End on Bleeker Street in NYC on Saturday January 13th at 6:30pm.

Brooke Moriber is a singer/songwriter and native New Yorker who has paved an unconventional path for herself in Country music. After getting her start at a young age professionally performing on Broadway, Brooke turned to songwriting as a teenager to cope with losing her eyesight to a rare eye disease. When the disease went into remission after a difficult four years, Brooke began traveling to Nashville to tell her own stories. Praised for her “clarion voice” (Associated Press), she went on to release her first single “Cry Like A Girl” independently in 2019, and later signed with Nashville’s Reviver Records.

Moriber’s music has been in rotation on many Music Choice channels and has been featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday Country and Country Christmas playlists (“Little Bit of You”, “Down to Nothing”, “All I Want for Christmas is You”), CMT online, Music Choice Network and the Music Row Country Breakout radio chart. Brooke most recently released a self-titled album featuring “Holy Ground”, a soulful duet with The Voice’s Ian Flanigan.

The New York City girl performed her hometown anthem “This Town Made Us” on Today in Nashville and shared the stage with other young breakthrough artists including Dylan Scott and Caroline Jones. When she is not on the road, Moriber has been hard at work in Nashville with some of the industry’s top writers and producers, including Todd Lombardo and Craig Alvin (Kacey Musgraves), Karen Kosowski (Mickey Guyton) and David Pittenger (GAYLE, Parmalee). Hailed as a “stellar songwriter and a powerhouse vocalist” (Country Swag) and “a force to be reckoned with in Country music” (Celeb Secrets Country), Brooke is poised to take her place among the biggest voices in Country music.

Dua Lipa’s new single “Houdini”

Global superstar Dua Lipa has returned with her highly anticipated new single “Houdini,” the beginning of a new chapter following her 2020 smash album Future Nostalgia. The track is out today alongside its official music video, directed by Manu Cossu with cinematographer André Chemetoff.

“Houdini” is a light and freeing song that captures the feeling of being single and open to whatever life throws your way. It was co-written by Lipa, Caroline Ailin, Danny L. Harle, Tobias Jesso Jr., and Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker, who also produced the track along with Harle.

The official music video for “Houdini” shows Dua post-rehearsal in a dance hall, revising her choreography under fluorescent lights. The lights reflect in the room’s mirrors, creating an optical illusion as the energy begins to swell.

“This track represents the most light and freeing parts of my singledom,” says Dua. “’Houdini’ is very tongue in cheek, exploring the idea of whether someone is really worth my while or if I’ll ghost them in the end. You never know where something may take you, that’s the beauty of being open to whatever life throws your way. I’m looking forward to sharing that feeling of defiant bliss with my fans.”

“Houdini” is the perfect song to start off summer 2023. It’s catchy, upbeat, and full of positive energy. Dua Lipa is back and better than ever, and we can’t wait to hear what she does next.

About Dua Lipa

3x GRAMMY and 6x Brit Award-winning international pop powerhouse Dua Lipa closed out 2022 as one of the top performers of the year, with both Variety and Billboard naming her Future Nostalgia World Tour among the best live shows of the year. The tour’s namesake album solidified Dua’s position as both a critical success and top radio performer. Future Nostalgia is certified platinum in the US and UK, was the longest running top 10 album by a female artist on the Billboard 200 in 2021, and has spawned multiple worldwide hit singles, with “Levitating” earning certified diamond status and the title of Billboard’s No. 1 Hot 100 Song of 2021. In addition to breaking solo records, Dua proved to be a formidable collaborator, with Elton John’s “Cold Heart (PNAU Remix)” landing them the honor of Variety’s 2022 Hitmakers of the Year.

Dua has found superstar status on stage and off, thanks to her many passions outside the world of music. 2022 saw Dua launch Service95, a global style, culture, and society editorial platform inspired by her lifelong habit of curating extensive recommendations lists. The accompanying podcast, Dua Lipa: At Your Service, features thoughtful conversations with high-profile guests from fellow performers and artists to authors and activists, and has been lauded in publications including The Sunday Times, Vogue, The Guardian and was named one of the Best Podcasts of 2022 by Spotify. Dua’s passion for reading and affinity for storytelling led her to launch the third and latest branch of the platform, the Service95 Book Club.

As a fashion icon, Dua has graced the cover of every major fashion magazine worldwide from Vogue and Elle to W and Dazed. Most recently, Dua co-designed Versace’s “La Vacanza” collection, alongside the iconic Donatella Versace herself. The womenswear collection debuted at a fashion show in Cannes in May 2023 which Vogue called, “the hottest collaboration of the summer” while Vogue Runway’s review of the show hailed it “an instantly desirable, flattering summer wardrobe.”

Dua’s eponymous 2017 debut album is certified platinum, spawned six platinum tracks, and made her the first female artist in Brit Awards history to pick up five nominations in a single year. Dua has a total of 8 Grammy nominations, with three wins for Best Pop Vocal Album, Best New Artist and Best Dance Recording. Across platforms globally, she has amassed over 38 billion streams and holds the record for having the top two most streamed albums by a female artist of all time on Spotify.

The Beatles’ “Now and Then” Music Video

Posted by The Entertainment Magazine

Peter Jackson, best known for directing the Lord of the Rings trilogy, has directed a music video for The Beatles’ last song, “Now and Then.” The video premiered on Friday, November 3, at 1pm GMT / 9am EDT / 6am PDT on The Beatles’ YouTube channel.

The video is described as “poignant and humorous” and “invites viewers to celebrate The Beatles’ timeless and enduring love for one another with John, Paul, George and Ringo as they create the last Beatles song.”

The video features rare and unseen footage of The Beatles, including footage from the 1995 recording sessions for “Now and Then,” home movie footage, and the earliest known film of The Beatles performing in their leather suits.

Jackson said that he was reluctant to direct the video at first because he was worried about living up to the expectations of Beatles fans. However, he was persuaded to take on the project after he saw the footage that was available.

“I realized that if I could make a short movie that was worthy of this beautiful song, then it would be a great honor,” Jackson said.

The video’s global premiere follows the worldwide release of The Beatles’ “Now And Then”/”Love Me Do” double A-side single. “Now and Then” was written and sung by John Lennon, developed and worked on by Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, and now finally finished by Paul and Ringo over four decades later. The double A-side single pairs the last Beatles song with the first: the band’s 1962 debut UK single, “Love Me Do.”

The release features original cover art by renowned artist Ed Ruscha.

Peter Jackson on Directing the Music Video

Peter Jackson initially hesitated to direct the music video, feeling the weight of responsibility for creating a fitting tribute to The Beatles’ final song. However, after receiving encouragement from The Beatles and discovering a wealth of unseen footage, Jackson embraced the challenge.

“I realized we needed the imagination of every viewer to do what we couldn’t, and have each viewer create their own personal moment of farewell to The Beatles,” Jackson said.

The resulting music video is a heartfelt and humorous journey through The Beatles’ history, from their early days in Liverpool to their final recording sessions.

“Now And Then”/“Love Me Do” Double A-Side Single

The music video’s global premiere follows today’s worldwide release of The Beatles’ “Now And Then”/“Love Me Do” double A-side single. “Now And Then” was written and sung by John Lennon, developed and worked on by Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, and now finally finished by Paul and Ringo over four decades later. The double A-side single pairs the last Beatles song with the first: the band’s 1962 debut UK single, “Love Me Do,” a truly fitting full-circle counterpart to “Now And Then.” Both songs are mixed in stereo and Dolby Atmos®, and the release features original cover art by renowned artist Ed Ruscha.

About The Beatles

The Beatles are the most influential and popular band in music history. They have sold over 600 million records worldwide and have won 10 Grammy Awards. Their music has been covered by countless artists and has been featured in countless films and television shows. The Beatles are a true cultural phenomenon and their music continues to inspire and entertain people of all ages.

About Peter Jackson

Peter Jackson is an Academy Award-winning filmmaker best known for his work on the Lord of the Rings trilogy. He is also a passionate Beatles fan and has directed several documentaries about the band, including The Beatles: Get Back. Jackson is a master storyteller and his work on the “Now And Then” music video is a fitting tribute to The Beatles’ legacy.

NYC Punk Rock Veterans The Underbites Release Good Girl Single and Video From Their Forthcoming Four Songs About Girls EP

credit: Kirsten Blackburn

Classic-sounding New York City Punk Rock quartet The Underbites explode back on the scene with “Good Girl”, now available on Spotify and all major music services, with a killer companion video on YouTube

“Good Girl” is a feel good, hyped up, can’t miss track for fans of acts like The Muffs, U.S. Bombs, The Ramones, Social Distortion and other pioneers of punk, with added homage paid to the proliferation of melodies and hooks in the pop-punk ‘90s and early 2000s. The Underbites can vibe with any of the classic CBGB, SoCal, NYHC or Warped Tour scenes that were all highly distinct from one another, but were delivered with a distinctively punk rock ethos.

“‘Good Girl’ isn’t intended to be smarmy,” explains frontman/guitarist Jon Fox. “I saw the soul singer Simi Stone live and when I saw her play her song ‘Good Girl,’ I thought ‘How interesting would it be to write a song from the point of view of the character — from someone who turned good… but not that good.'” Delivered with the band’s trademark combination of humor and punch, the titular character gives up “everything except weed and sex.”

credit: Kirsten Blackburn

Lyrically, Fox draws as much from The Beach Boys, Squeeze and Robyn Hitchcock as he does from the Sex Pistols. Whether tackling activist posturing, consumer culture, economic decline, racial division, the sleazy machinations of politics, or polarizing figures like Donald Trump and Michael Moore, Fox is masterful at jolting listeners with an initial shock that, on closer inspection, reveals layers of thought.

Underbites songs, in fact, don’t spoon-feed you what they’re trying to say, which leaves fertile ground for listeners to walk away with some much-needed new perspective. In a world that’s constantly shouting at us, Fox knows all too well that shouting by itself doesn’t do the trick. Sure, he shouts a good deal too, but his songs are spiked with nuggets of wit and intelligence that belie their surface presentation.

“There’s also,” Fox points out, “a lot of humor, which is such an important part of the palette. You never wanna beat people over the head, so I try to couch my opinions in storytelling—and vice-versa. When we do politics, it’s political with a small-p.”

Birds are Better Present Soaring Debut

The Island (Part One)
New Dream-folk Project by Norwegian Singer/Songwriter Stian Fjelldal

Stream

The Island — Part One, the sparkling debut by Norwegian singer-songwriter Stian Fjelldal’s new dream-folk project Birds Are Better has just been released to Spotify and all the major services.

Creative and eclectic, Birds are Better owes as much to classic groups like Crosby, Stills & Nash as it does to more modern fare like Fleet Foxes, The Flaming Lips and Susanne Sundfør.

Highlight tracks include “Marigold“, “Fencing You In” and the title track, “The Island”.

Watch the video for “Marigold” here

After emerging onto to the scene with the radio hit “Håbløs”, a record deal with Warner Music, and releasing such memorable gems as “Sammen i Mørket,” “Æ vil heim,” “I verdens rigeste land,” “Bare min,, “Festen,” and “Ville hesta,” Fjelldal found himself in a creative rut. So he decided to free himself and go in a new direction with Birds Are Better. These days, Fjelldal is something of a major-label refugee who’s staking his claim in independence and creative freedom with this album.

The Island — Part One is clearly the work of a singer/songwriter reveling in his newfound sense of creative freedom and resurgence. The results are, by turns, gorgeous, breathtaking, melancholy and, ultimately, life-affirming.
