Agave Heritage Festival 2019
April 23, 2019 @ 8:00 am - May 5, 2019 @ 5:00 pm MST
Agave Heritage Festival 2019 on April 23 – May 5, 2019, Hotel Congress, 311 E Congress St. Tucson and Southern Arizona continue to break down border barriers and find unique and creative ways to collaborate with our neighbors to the south. Through these avenues of change, Hotel Congress and Agave Heritage Festival are creating cultural and economic impacts in a profound way with the 11th Annual Agave Heritage Festival.
The vision of this festival is to create Tucson as a premier destination for all things agave, and the connections made from previous years have created a groundswell that brings this vision to life. Last year’s Pro Mexico Trade Mission created a space for 10 mezcal producers to join us for the first time in the United States, and through close partnerships with small importers like Creo Spirits and Borderland Spirits, many of these producers are now licensed and have available products throughout Arizona!
This year we bring Bacanora, the spirit of the Sonoran desert, to the forefront by showcasing the brilliance of this regional elixir to the masses. In past years, this spirit has been hard to find throughout AZ, but with a lot of effort and passion, there are 7 new expressions of Bacanora arriving in the Tucson market right before the start of the festival! Experience these spirits throughout the Agave Heritage Festival events and discover just how special this Sonoran spirit is.
As you begin to salivate over dreams of mezcal, there are a few events happening during the festival that you really shouldn’t miss:

The Agave Heritage Festival, founded by Todd Hanley, GM of Hotel Congress, was established in Tucson, which in 2008 was the first U.S. city to receive the UNESCO City of Gastronomy designation. The Festival explores and celebrates the cultural commercial and culinary significance of agave on the border region through a festival of world-class culinary events, film, arts, music, seminars, trade shows, and more. The festival, which was established as a registered trademark event this year, has become a signature regional celebration attracting visitors from the Southwest and beyond with a vision to make Tucson a premier destination for ‘all things agave’.
This year’s festival partners are Rio Nuevo, Visit Tucson, Start-up Tucson, TenWest Festival, The University of Arizona, the Tucson City of Gastronomy, Tohono Chul, Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, Sysco Food Services, Bat Conservation International and numerous local businesses. Many of the events featured in the festival raise funds to help support local organizations like Mission Garden and Native Seeds/SEARCH.

“The agave, in short, was meat, drink, clothing, and writing materials for the Aztec! Surely, never did Nature enclose in so compact a form so many of the elements of human comfort and civilization!”
