An Evening with Todd Rundgren
February 17, 2016 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm UTC+0
Danny Zelisko Presents welcomes legendary singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Todd Rundgren to the historic Celebrity Theatre at 7: 30 p.m. on Sunday, May 8th. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 22nd at Celebrity Theatre or visit www.celebritytheatre.com.
Rock’s Renaissance Man Todd Rundgren will take the stage to deliver fan favorites from an extraordinary list that spans more than five decades. Among Rundgren’s best-known hits are “Hello It’s Me,” “Bang the Drum All Day,” “Can We Still Be Friends,” “I Saw The Light” and “We Gotta Get You a Woman.” Global (released 2015) is the veteran artist’s 25th solo album.
Hailed in the early stages of his career for both his own material and for his production of other artists, Rundgren is still considered A Wizard, A True Star (the title of his 1973 solo album). The contributions of this multi-faceted artist as a pioneer of multimedia, computer software developer, conceptualist, and interactive artist (re-designated TR-i) have made a lasting impact on both the form and content of popular music.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Rundgren began playing guitar as a teenager, going on to found and front the `60’s cult group The Nazz. In 1969, he left the band to pursue a solo career. It was 1972’s seminal Something/Anything?, on which he played all the instruments, sang all the vocal parts, and acted as his own producer, that catapulted Rundgren into the superstar limelight. It was followed by such landmark LPs as The Hermit of Mink Hollow and the above mentioned A Wizard, A True Star. In 1974, Rundgren formed Utopia producing the standout offerings Oops! Wrong Planet, Adventures in Utopia and Oblivion. Rundgren’s production projects include albums by Patti Smith, The Tubes, Cheap Trick, Psychedelic Furs, Meatloaf, XTC, Grand Funk Railroad, and Hall And Oates. A dazzling guitarist, Rundgren is a past recipient of the Les Paul Award, along with other notables such as Slash, Pete Townshend, Steve Vai and Lindsey Buckingham. He has performed with orchestras, DJ’s and regularly tours as a member of Ringo Starr’s All-Star Band.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets ($35, $55 and $75) go on sale at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 22nd Celebrity Theatre, 440 N. 32nd St., in Phoenix, or online at www.celebritytheatre.com.
