The Arizona Balalaika Orchestra, featuring soloists Alexander Tentser, piano, and Grayson Hirst, tenor, will open the Friends of Music concert season at Saint Philip’s In The Hills on October 22, 2017 at 2:00pm in the church.

Alexander Tentser will be conductor and piano soloist with the orchestra. Dr. Tentser serves on the piano faculty at Pima Community College and is well-known in the region. He has conducted the balalaikas for fifteen years. He will be performing a Russian piece, ARIA, by V. Bibergan. Also featured is Grayson Hirst, nationally renowned tenor, singing popular Russian ballads. Professor Hirst has performed internationally in seventy operatic leads. He is the founding director of the Sons of Orpheus, which performs with the orchestra, singing the vast repertoire of the Red Army Chorus.

Founded almost forty years ago, the Arizona Balalaika Orchestra will perform classical and traditional folk music on a variety of Russian instruments. Suggested donation is $15; students are always free with ID.
