Army Convoy comes to Cochise County
October 13, 2015 @ 8:00 am - November 17, 2015 @ 5:00 pm UTC+0
95th Anniversary Army Convoy comes to Cochise County, AZ. In 1920 the US ARMY sent a convoy of military vehicles across the country – the first-ever Convoy across the US along the Bankhead Highway. The Army was determined to further their understanding of the practicality of motorized transport and its place in the US Army. The 1920 route began at the White House, in Washington, DC and ended at Balboa Park, in San Diego, CA – some 3,300 miles and 116 days later. The Military Vehicle Preservation Association (MVPA) will conduct a 95th Anniversary Convoy with as many as 120 Historic Military Vehicles that will retrace the original 1920 Transcontinental Motor Convoy route leaving from Washington, DC on September 19 and arrive in San Diego, CA 29 days later, on Saturday, October 17.
The convoy will enter Cochise County, Arizona on Day 25, October 13 and will follow Highway 80 from Douglas to Bisbee, Tombstone, Benson, and on to Tucson before departing the state. This is a Convoy of privately owned Historic Military Vehicles – of all eras, from WWI through to military vehicles recently released from our Military. The MVPA (www.mvpa.org ) is an organization with its mission “To provide an international organization for military vehicle enthusiasts, historians, preservationists and collectors interested in the acquisition, restoration, preservation, safe operation and public education of historic military transport”.
