Blessing of Sonoita Vineyards

The 39th Annual BLESSING OF THE VINEYARD will be held Saturday, April 1 at noon at Sonoita Vineyards, 290 Elgin Canelo Road, in Elgin, Arizona in Sonoita Wine Country. The event runs from 10am-4pm. Each year toward in April, the daylong event includes the Blessing of the Vineyard and procession with Father Greg Adolph (who has been giving the blessing for years) as well as tastings, pairings, tours of the winery and vineyard. The festivities celebrate the beginning of spring and growing season.
$25 Admission at the door ($20 pre-purchase e-tickets online limited to the first 250) to the 39th Annual Blessing of the Vineyard includes live music all day, four food and wine pairings, six drink tickets, souvenir giveaway for the first 100 people, winery and vineyard tours. Lunch is available at $10/plate from The Steak Out. Horseback rides and a two-hour trail ride are available from Arizona Horseback Experience by calling (520) 455-5696.
The oldest commercial vineyard and winery in Arizona, Sonoita Vineyards opened in 1983, and now includes over 30 acres of vines. Located 35-miles southeast of Tucson in Elgin, Sonoita Vineyards is a 25-acre vineyard situated on the south side of a hillside, surrounded by rolling grasslands. The Sonoita American Viticultural Area is a basin surrounded by three mountain ranges, the Huachuca Mountains, the Santa Rita Mountains, and the Whetstone Mountains. The vineyard plantings are 4,500 feet above sea level, some of the highest in North America. This hillside planting protects the vines from harsh winds and frost. The grape varietals grown at Sonoita Vineyards are Chardonnay, Mission, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Sangiovese, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Malbec.
