Bob Newhart at the Diamond Center
November 21, 2015 @ 7:30 am - 10:00 pm
Bob Newhart—renowned stand-up comic, actor, and author—is performing live at the Diamond Center on Sat., Nov. 21. Tickets range from $25 to $65 and go on sale Oct. 17 through Star Tickets; they are also available at Desert Diamond’s Rewards Center. Doors open 5 pm; show starts 6 pm.
Bob Newhart has been entertaining the English-speaking world for over a half-century and was recently Emmy®-awarded for guest appearances on the BIG BANG THEORY. He’s enjoyed a lifetime of TV stardom, numerous accolades, including the coveted “Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize,” and a starring role in two of TV’s biggest-ever comedy hits.
In 2009, the NAB, the National Association of Broadcasters, presented the veteran entertainer with its “Hall of Fame” Award at a gala in Las Vegas, the site of some of Newhart’s biggest stand up triumphs, performed alongside friends such as Frank Sinatra. Newhart also recently marked another career milestone, the 35th anniversary of “The Bob Newhart Show,” the iconic TV sitcom that surely made him a household name and set the tone for a generation of TV shows.
Newhart came to prominence in the early 1960s when his album of comedic monologues The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart was a worldwide bestseller and reached number one on the Billboard pop album chart—it remains the 20th best-selling comedy album in history. He won three Grammy awards in 1961: Best New Artist, Album of the Year (the first comedy record to be honored as Album of the Year), and Best Comedy Performance (Spoken Word). “The Bob Newhart Show” ran on CBS TV from 1972-78, followed by the successful “Newhart” series, also originally on CBS. In 1993, Newhart was inducted into the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Hall of Fame.
PBS recently saluted Newhart’s rich career with a rare honor, an “American Masters” presentation, and his first ever book, the hardcover edition of “I Shouldn’t Even Be Doing This,” was a New York Times bestseller. Since 1962, Bob Newhart has appeared in 14 feature films, including “Elf,” and “Catch 22” and provided character voices for major animated films.
Treena Parvello, Director of Public Relations and Communications for the Tohono O’odham Gaming Enterprise, said “Bob Newhart is a national treasure and Desert Diamond couldn’t be more excited to host his show on Nov. 21! He’s been making audiences laugh for decades and now Southern Arizona can experience his humor live and in person!”
