Celebrate the Late John Lennon’s 75th Birthday
October 9, 2015 @ 8:30 pm - 11:00 pm
Join fellow John Lennon fans on what would have been the late great rock legend’s 75th birthday at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, October 9 at the historic Celebrity Theatre. Hosted and performed by the eerily Lennon-like Otto D and his band Working Class Hero, the audience will be reintroduced to this iconic ex-Beatle as never before. Famed John Lennon photographer David Spindel sets the mood by sharing the story of how he landed John Lennon as a client and shows his rare photos from The Hit Factory recording sessions during John’s last days. And America’s foremost speed painter Randall Hedden paints “The Four Faces of Lennon” live on stage.
Lennon 75 commemorates John’s years with The Beatles, the rebellious years of his early solo career in the 1970’s, and finally the quieter introspective years that carried him into the 1980’s. Special care has been taken to embrace all members of the audience no matter their level of familiarity with John’s body of work. The 60-minute plus show features multiple costume changes, over thirty songs performed by accomplished musicians and supported by world class orchestral backing tracks. This sets the stage for lead vocalist/emcee Otto D (D’Agnolo) whose vocal style, uncanny physical appearance and stage presentation make Lennon 75 the definitive John Lennon experience.
Although Otto D looks and sounds hauntingly like John Lennon, it is not an act he turns on and off, it is simply who he is. Otto’s goal has never been to pretend to be John, but to respectfully try and give every audience the opportunity to share a dream, to recreate an experience that none of us can ever have again: to relive and honor the music of one of the greatest singer/songwriters of our time: John Lennon.
Otto’s strong resemblance to that of John’s was spotted by producer Gordy Deems. After Deems heard some of Otto’s original music, it turned out he sounded even more like Lennon than he looked. It was then Deems knew he could build a John Lennon show far better than any he’d seen.
The icing on Lennon’s cake? Randall Hedden’s Tributeart Live! It’s more than just a performance, it’s art in action. The speed painter travels the country transforming blank canvases into finished original works of art. For Lennon 75, Hedden will paint “The Four Faces of Lennon” live on stage. The interactive blend of music, art and the crowd’s response is nothing short of amazing.
