Circus School of Arizona Winter 2016 Session
January 3, 2016 @ 8:00 am - March 12, 2016 @ 5:00 pm
The Circus School of Arizona presents its Winter 2016 Session JANUARY 3RD-MARCH 12TH, 2016 with Jumpin’ Junior Circus, Elevate Into Flexibility, and Paper Doll Militia Workshops! New Class Offerings!
Jumpin’ Junior Circus
Ages 3 – 6
Come explore the fun and exciting world of circus arts through imaginative and creative age-appropriate activities which help young children develop balance, coordination, spatial awareness, flexibility, and strength. This class will introduce the fundamentals of tumbling, low-wire, and many other circus apparatus! Merle has worked with children for over 25 years as a gymnastics teacher from coast to coast. She holds a BA in Elementary Education with a minor in Theatre. Merle grew up surrounded by music and the performing arts, enjoying ballet, modern dance, gymnastics and singing. She began teaching gymnastics right after high school at a girls’ sports camp in Vermont and worked her way out west to coach at the Multnomah Athletic Club in Portland, OR where she worked with beginner team levels and became the director of the tiny tot program. In Portland she began performing with local musical theatre and dance groups. One production was the musical, “Barnum” where she performed on the Spanish web. From that moment, circus was in her blood! However, raising a family and becoming a Waldorf teacher took precedence. While school teaching full time, she also began the Cedarwood Circus after school program in Portland, but after many family moves, circus had taken a back seat until moving to Las Vegas where she started training again on the Lyra with Cassie Sandou of The Sandou Trio and teaching gymnastics again at Desert Gymcats. Now, Merle is settled in AZ teaching gymnastics at Surprise Angels. She is happy that she found the Circus School of Arizona and that circus is back in her life! She looks forward to bringing the circus arts to the little ones!
