El Tambó Fest 2017
March 31, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - April 1, 2017 @ 2:30 am MST
A celebration of musica tropical and cultura in the borderlands is El Tambó Fest on March 31, 2017 7pm – 2am, at the Hotel Congress. Growing out of the success of El Tambó––Tucson’s series of popular and nationally recognized dance parties curated by DJ Logan “Dirtyverbs” Phillips––El Tambo Fest takes the cutting edge social and musical touchstones and blows it up to a full scale cultural event. Tickets $10 for this 21+ event
El Tambó is a dance party with roots that run deep into the Sonoran Desert soil and extend across borders. As much cumbia as it is dancehall, as much Agua Prieta as it is Colombia, the party is located exactly where Tucson meets the world and specifically where Las Américas meet Tucson. El Tambó, loosely, “The Drum,” celebrates the cultural remixing that has always taken place here in the borderlands–– where O’odham cumbia meets Carribean fuego, where consciousness and context are all at home on the dance floor.
Featured among the performers are the critically acclaimed La Misa Negra from Oakland, the all-star Austin Selena tribute act, Bidi Bidi Banda and one of New York City’s fastest rising stars Riobamba DJ. Not to forget one of Tucson’s most-loved cumbia bands, Vox Urbana.
Not only bringing in great acts from around the country, as well as artisans and vendors who share the same spirit, El Tambo Fest kicks off with a complimentary mezcal to get the juices flowing! The celebration starts early with a Mezcal Happy Hour presented by Youngs Market, where the first 500 ticket holders will be treated to complimentary mezcal and enjoy the sounds of a series of DJ’s hosted by DJ Q (Enrique García Naranjo).
Rocking crowds at the historic Hotel Congress in downtown Tucson since 2013, El Tambó was named “Best Danceparty” by the Tucson Weekly in 2015 and will reach new heights with the first-ever El Tambó Fest.
