FREE LIVE MUSIC IN ORO VALLEY

February 9, 2019 @ 10:30 am - March 1, 2019 @ 5:00 pm MST

Amber Norgaard (Folk), River Road Ramblers (Dixieland Jazz), and Don Armstrong & the Whiskeypalians (Americana) headline the next month of free concert series in Oro Valley, AZ. Concerts underwritten by the Town of Oro Valley

Saturday, February 9
10:30 AM – 12:00 PM
Amber Norgaard Trio
Folk Rock

Described as “poet, peace-warrior, healer” (Tucson Lifestyle Magazine) and “Tucson’s folk-rock goddess” (Natural Awakenings Magazine), Amber Norgaard is known for her passionate vocal/piano/guitar delivery, eloquent lyrics and graceful melodies that inspire hope. Prior to launching her music career in 2004, Norgaard worked as a registered nurse in southwestern Alaska. For six years, she lived 400 miles off the road system and was immersed within the indigenous population. It was here that she learned to use music as a source of connection to transcend language and cultural barriers. This discovery was what led her to pursue her passion—using music as healing art to foster compassion, spirituality and promote positive social change. She has released five full-length albums and multiple singles, toured nationally, opened for Judy Collins, Kenny Loggins, and Michael McDonald, received accolades for her songwriting, written songs for multiple non-profit organizations and film projects, and speaks at universities and organizations on “Music as a Healing Art and Instrument for Social Change”. We perform traditional New Orleans style Dixieland Jazz, as well as the West Coast Jazz style of the Lu Watters and his Yerba Buena Jazz Band. We are fortunate to have a large library of music which includes the books of Lu Watters.

Don Armstrong & the Whiskeypalians
Folk & Americana

Called “A master singer…a folk treasure” by the Daily Times, DON ARMSTRONG & THE WHISKEYPALIANS consists of nationally acclaimed folk singer/songwriter DON ARMSTRONG on guitar & 5 string banjo joined by his merry band of Whiskeypalians, featuring some of Tucson’s hottest acoustic musicians. An accomplished entertainer and touring performer, Don got his start at Caffé Lena, in upstate New York, in 1964. The coffee house was, and still is, one of the most sought-after venues for folk musicians. Founder Lena Spencer asked Don to do a guest sets there when he was 16—not long after Bob Dylan, Dave Van Ronk and John Phillips, from The Mamas & the Papas, were playing there. Rope Burns described his playing as featuring “Impeccable flat picking and banjo work.” For more information about this group please visit: http://www.nightpeopledance.com/
