Homescape Harvest Tour 2015
October 17, 2015 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm UTC+0
Find Your Inspiration at Watershed Management Group’s 5th Annual Homescape Harvest Tour. Watershed Management Group (WMG) invites you to learn about water harvesting, solar energy, and other sustainable practices at sites throughout Tucson that demonstrate how to “walk the talk” of green living.
The 5th Annual Homescape Harvest Tour takes place on Saturday October 17, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. On this self-paced tour of 25 residential and public landscapes, you will explore a diverse range of sustainable features including rain gardens, cisterns, active and passive solar systems, composting toilets, food gardens, wildlife habitat, and much more!
Homeowners and site hosts will be on hand to guide you through their landscapes, so you can learn firsthand from the homeowners how to create beautiful and affordable features to harvest water, energy, and food.
Most of the sites featured on the tour have completed projects with WMG’s Green Living Co-op—and this year WMG has partnered with three local groups to add even more sites showcasing a wide array of systems. Two local businesses, Technicians for Sustainability and Ethos Rainwater Harvesting, have sites featured on the tour. And Conserve2Enhance, a Tucson-based group that connects water conservation to community action, is hosting three public sites that feature water-harvesting systems installed by WMG.
Tickets are $15—or $10 for bicycle riders, public transportation users, and those who carpool. Children under 14 can come along for free. Ticket sales will support WMG’s Green-Living Co-op educational events.
This year, tour participants can join a guided bike tour to visit water-harvesting sites at a casual pace with WMG’s own Karilyn Roach. The 15-mile, bike-friendly route—beginning at the home of WMG’s founders and ending at perennial tour favorite Manzo Elementary—is available to join at no extra charge. So saddle up, and get ready to be inspired.
New for this year, WMG invites tour participants to fuel up for their tour day at the Living Lab. Peddler on the Path will have fresh coffee and espresso drinks for sale from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. to start your morning off right. Then, stop by the Living Lab for lunch from the Veg in a Box food truck from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and take a break in the shade.
Advance registration is encouraged to ensure you receive the tour program with maps, suggested routes, and brief descriptions of the features at each property. For more information and to sign up, visit watershedmg.org/hht2015.
