Kidical Mass, a community bike ride
January 9, 2016 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm UTC+0
On Saturday, January 9th Tucsonans will start the New Year with Beyond Tucson, a celebration of healthy, active living for the whole family. As part of the Beyond festivities, Living Streets Alliance in partnership with El Grupo Youth Cycling will lead Kidical Mass, a community bike ride that is free and open to riders of all ages and abilities. The ride will meet on the southwest corner of Armory Park near the intersection of South 6th Avenue and East 13th Street at 12 pm. There will be bike parking available so riders can park their bikes and join the Beyond Tucson activities at Armory Park and at the Childrens’ Museum, which is offering free admission that day.
Living Streets Alliance invites families to start new habits and engage in a fun, safe activity that is good for the environment, too. El Grupo Youth Cycling teammates will lead the riders on a route that is safe and easy, showing how simple it is to get to all your favorite places by riding your bike. Bike riders will be accompanied by trained ride leaders and families from across Tucson on all types of bikes – trailers, trail-a-bikes, Xtracycles, longtails, bakfiets, Long Johns, tandems, folders, trikes – whatever rolls is welcome to join the ride! Riders should dress accordingly to be comfortable outside for at least an hour. BICAS mechanics will provide free bike repair and Isabella’s Ice Cream will be awaiting riders at the end for a free scoop of their favorite ice cream.
Kidical Mass is a national grassroots movement designed to provide an organized, safe, and fun family bike ride through city streets and to highlight routes that connect our neighborhoods to work, school and local businesses. Parents are asked to take responsibility for their children on the road for the safety of all. Participants are encouraged to bring their helmets, however a limited supply of children’s helmets will be provided for free, courtesy of the City of Tucson Bicycle and Pedestrian Program and Pima Association of Governments.
Beyond Tucson is a region-wide event dedicated to improving the health and well-being of our community and encourages Arizonans to come together, get outside and be physically active. You can learn more and register at www.beyond-tucson.org/event/kidical-mass-family-friendly-bike-ride/
