Martina McBride at the Celebrity
January 28, 2016 @ 8:00 pm MST
The historic Celebrity Theatre hosts multi-million selling singer-songwriter-producer Martina McBride at 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 28, 2016. Tickets go on sale Monday, August 24!
Martina McBride’s 20-plus year career continues to flourish. Last year, she released her 12th studio album and her first collection on her own label. Produced by the well-known Don Was, “Everlasting” features covers of soul and R&B songs and includes duets with Gavin DeGraw and Kelly Clarkson. McBride breathes new life into ballads like “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long,” “If You Don’t Know Me By Now,” and her voice is equally refreshing on such tempo tunes as “Wild Night” and “Suspicious Minds.” Even Motown gets a new twist in her version of “Come See About Me.”
In 2014 Martina also performed all-star salutes to Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame members Greg Allman and Carole King, and was a presenter at the Grammy Awards. Her high-profile year continued with McBride joining Country Music Hall of Fame member George Strait on his farewell tour. And that’s now all: cooking on and off the stage, the petite 5’2” powerhouse vocalist published “Around the Table,” a book about entertaining at home complete with recipes, decorating tips, and personal stories.
Known for singing lyrics of substance and songs that challenge listeners, McBride has addressed domestic violence in “Independence Day,” female empowerment in “This One’s for the Girls,” child abuse in “Concrete Angel,” alcoholism in “Cheap Whiskey,” poverty in “God’s Will” and cancer in “I’m Gonna Love You Through It.” Among her other well-known hits are “In My Daughter’s Eyes,” “Safe In The Arms of Love,” “Wrong Again” and “My Baby Loves Me.”
To date, McBride has sold over 18 million albums, had twenty Top 10 hits and six #1 smashes. As a result, she is ranked as the most played woman vocalist on country radio between 1999 and 2010. McBride was honored with an induction into the cast of the Grand Ole Opry in 1995, and has earned more than 15 major music awards, including four wins for “Female Vocalist of the Year” from the Country Music Association and three wins for “Top Female Vocalist” from the Academy of Country Music.
Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets ($61, $76 and $96) go on sale at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 24 at Celebrity Theatre, at 440 N. 32nd St., in Phoenix, or online at www.celebritytheatre.com. To charge by phone, call 602-267-1600 ext. 1. All tickets are subject to a surcharge.
