San Francisco Bay Area seven-piece that plays energetic soul, psych-rock and R&B that’s as fresh and freethinking as the place they call home, have released their music video off their full length album Explorer.
Premiering on PopMatters, the video for the song “Body Language” follows director Pete Lee’s vision of turning this “super sultry, super smooth number upon first listen” into a crime scene. “Their music is so positive and high energy, but it’s also got this Ocean’s 11 quality to it” Lee explains. It’s why this song was filmed in a dark and dingy old school garage based in the Bay Area. Lee stated that he “started picturing old school Michael Mann flicks, and before I knew it I was ready to stuff the band into the trunk and throw away the car keys.

Con Brio means “with spirit,” and they take their name to heart. In a world divided, Con Brio has set out to find a way to bring love, positivity, and compassion through uplifting, sultry rhythms, and lyrics. “Body Language does just that, it brings together a time when the band was touring the world (US, Canada, Europe, Japan), performing at festivals, and being in love. “When writing this song, I suppose we just wanted to channel honest love and appreciation for physical affection through the music. Something smooth and therapeutic,” explains McCarter.
Showcasing a newly layered, contemporary production style, the record represents an impressive leap for the group PopMatters calls “the best new live band in America.” Afropunk gave Explorer a rave review, noting, “This is an album about trying to find the joy in life when the world is a slowly spinning dumpster fire. I didn’t realize how badly I needed this … but Explorer may be the most essential pop record of summer 2018.” Singles “Heart-Shaped Box” and “Body Language” premiered in Billboard Magazine and Consequence of Sound, respectively.
Explorer is a travelogue of sorts, it was written over two years and one presidential election—all while the band was touring the globe and fielding questions about our leaders, our choices, our guns. If Paradise turned a mirror on America in 2016, Explorerlooks outward, confronting uncertainty about the future, and the challenges of representing America abroad during a time of unprecedented volatility at home.
Con Brio will continue to tour the U.S. with Blues Traveler in support of Explorerthroughout the remainder of 2018. (See dates below.)
