Using coupons from the web is different than the traditional cut-out-with-sissors coupons that were more popular in the last century. Todays coupons are digital.
There are two ways to use digital coupons from merchant websites:
Print the coupon and take it to a "bricks and mortar" store near you to redeem the discount on your purchase. Some merchants allow multiple printing of the coupon for additional uses.
Online purchase from a retailers web site, during the check out process, use a "coupon code" or promotional code to get a discount. These promo codes are not usually accepted at the retailers brick store.
Either way, the savings can be substantial when you consider how much prices are rising. While coupons can make a product or service cheaper in price, there are often restrictions on many coupons.
Coupon restrictions often include expiration dates, single use requirements (can only use the coupon one time per purchase or per person), and participating merchants. Not all merchants participate in redeeming coupons.
Coupon codes vs promo codes
Both coupon codes and promo codes (also called promotional codes and promotion codes, or voucher codes in Europe) are the same thing.
The word coupon can apply to a printable coupon, but often the word is used interchanged with promotional code.
