Kitchen Cabinets Refacing
Update your kitchen at a fraction of the cost
By Mary Hobson
Many people want to change the way their kitchen looks. However, if the layout works well and the basic construction of the kitchen is good, it can be difficult to justify the cost of new kitchen cabinets.
If the kitchen cupboard frame is sound and there is no major building work to be done during the renovation, kitchen cupboard refacing can be a good cost-effective alternative.
This form of kitchen renovation is often used when the kitchen is out of fashion or when renovation is necessary in order to help sell the home.
Kitchen cabinet refacing with wooden or veneered doors can make a kitchen look entirely different when used in conjunction with new drapes, redecoration, and new flooring.
Update your kitchen cabinets yourself
Home improvement stores now carry an inexpensive, but time consuming, product that can be done by anyone. RUST-OLEUM Transformations Kit, retails about $75 from Home Depot, is a do-it-yourself coating system that can dramatically change the look to worn out cabinets. There is no stripping, no sanding or priming required. But, it takes several coats, a 3-step process, to produce the results. The cabinets also need to dry in between each step.
This option makes it easy to transform the look without a lot of work prepping the cabinets beyond removing each door.
