The Academy Is...
Announces "Sleeping With Giants" Fall Headline Tour; Acclaimed Band to Globetrot All Summer Long, With Trips to Australia, Japan, England
Decaydance/Fueled By Ramen recording group The Academy Is... has unveiled initial details of their eagerly anticipated fall tour.
The coast-to-coast headline trek -- dubbed the "Sleeping With Giants Tour" -- will take off September 5th in Milwaukee, with dates running non-stop through a Chicago hometown finale on November 28th. A full itinerary and on-sale information will be announced shortly. Joining The Academy Is... on the trip will be special guests The Rocket Summer, Sherwood, and the band's longtime friends, Armor For Sleep.
Selected as one of AOL Music's "Breakers," The Academy Is... is now on the road wowing crowds as part of this year's Honda Civic Tour alongside Fall Out Boy, +44, Paul Wall, and Cobra Starship. The massive 42-city itinerary will continue to travel North America through July 2nd at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
Next, The Academy Is... will pave the way for its "Sleeping With Giants Tour" with an eagerly anticipated Australian trek and performances at two of the planet's most legendary festivals. On August 11th and 12th, the band will hit Japan for the annual Summer Sonic extravaganza in Tokyo and Osaka. From there, it's off to England for performances at the world-renowned Carling Weekend at Reading and Leeds on August 25th and 26th.
The fall headlining tour will be preceded by the release of a new single, "Everything We Had." Culled from the band's acclaimed new album, "SANTI," the track will impact radio outlets nationwide on July 9th.
The Academy Is... has been a major presence on TV in recent months, with highlights including a pair of major network appearances on both NBC's "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" and ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" The band's video for "We've Got A Big Mess On Our Hands" recently hit the #1 spot as most-streamed video at mtvU.com and stands strong as a top 10 favorite at MTV2.
Next month, the band will headline an upcoming installment of "MTV Live," filmed earlier this year before a packed house at New York City's world-famous Hard Rock Café (check local listings). The band has also appeared on MTV's "TRL" twice in the past two months. "We've Got A Big Mess On Our Hands" remains a top 5 clip on Fuse, where it was also a #1 "Oven Fresh" winner.
"SANTI" -- which follows the Chicago-based band's 2005 breakthrough debut, "ALMOST HERE" -- has drawn ecstatic coverage in a variety of national publications, including a June cover feature in Alternative Press magazine. The band was recently feted in Rolling Stone as one of the year's "10 Artists To Watch," where "SANTI" was hailed for combining "heart-on-sleeve melodrama with a hard-rock swagger."
Newsday was effusive in its admiration, noting that "'SANTI' is the rare sophomore album that surpasses every hope its promising debut 'ALMOST HERE' offered and delivers new ones." USA Today agreed, calling the album "bigger in every way than its predecessor," hailing the band for "coming of age, tightening its chops, beefing up its rhythm-section stomp and showing off frontman William Beckett's range." Even Playboy was aroused by
"SANTI," lauding the album as "confident, intense without being strident or histrionic, light on melodrama and heavy on melody... the LP you wish The Killers would make."
