Joan Osborne's New Web Site for women,

HEROINE Magazine to Launch in Tandem with the Singer's New Album, "Righteous Love"

On the same day as the release of "Righteous Love" (Tuesday, Septemer 12, Interscope/Geffen/A&M), the follow-up album to "Relish," Grammy-nominated Joan Osborne will launch her new labor of love, HEROINE Magazine (www.heroinemagazine.com). The new Web site of inspiration for women of substance, HEROINE tells the stories of extraordinary females-of
their passions, struggles and achievements. Artists and explorers, rebels and saints, athletes and rock stars rub shoulders in these pages, along side fiction and journalism that excite the mind and spirit. While most magazines for women rely on fashion spreads for visual impact, HEROINE brings you the work of female artists and images of the many ways women express themselves.

Osborne, as both an artist and an activist, has chosen to create a deeper choice for women in a culture of magazines and Web sites that overdose on beauty and fashion. Instead HEROINE will focus on the defining moments and true beauty of women's lives. The premiere issue of HEROINE will feature an interview with singer Mary J. Blige, a conversation about political activism between Susan Sarandon and The Indigo Girls, and the work of acclaimed photographer Mary Ellen Mark.

The Flip Wilson Show on DVD And Video

On September 26, Rhino Home Video releases THE FLIP WILSON SHOW on DVD and video. The popular and critically acclaimed show originally aired from 1970-74 and was, like Flip himself, a fun, funny, classy production through and through. Now fans can once again see why Wilson was one of the most popular entertainers of the 1970s. And for those too young to have seen THE FLIP WILSON SHOW when it first aired, these releases offer the chance to discover one of the great show business talents.

The initial releases from the Wilson vaults consist of two videos with two episodes each and a DVD featuring all four episodes found on the videos. As added treats, the DVD contains a bonus episode not available on video and a photo gallery from Wilson's very own photo album of the series, with
Flip posing with some of his guests, many of whom were also personal friends of his. The videos are available individually for $9.95 or as a two-pack for $19.95, while the DVD is priced at $19.95. All are available at www.rhino.com or through regular retail outlets.

THE FLIP WILSON SHOW, VOLUME 1 guests include David Frost, Bill Cosby, Gina Lollabrigida, Don Rickles, Ray Charles, Redd Foxx, Bobby Darin, and The Muppets.

THE FLIP WILSON SHOW, VOLUME 2 boasts Lily Tomlin, Bobby Darin, Muhammed Ali, Johnny Cash, Joe Namath, Johnny Mathis, George Carlin, Paul McCartney & Wings, and Stiller & Meara as guests. The DVD contains the four episodes found on the tapes, plus a bonus fifth episode with guests Lucille Ball, The Osmond Brothers and Ed Sullivan.

With the release of THE FLIP WILSON SHOW, Rhino Home Video launches its new Retrovision line, making more classic television available to viewers. Other titles in the line are the forthcoming THE BRADY BUNCH VARIETY HOUR, THE REAL MCCOYS, and THE MIKE DOUGLAS SHOW. THE MONKEES and MY FAVORITE MARTIAN will also be included under the new banner, which carries the tag line "Retrofit your TV."

Wilson was a groundbreaking television personality in so many ways. He was the first African-American to successfully host his own variety show,. breaking through one of television's many color barriers. Among the most popular and memorable characters ever to appear on television was Wilson's Geraldine, making Wilson the first African-American to perform in drag on television (a good 15 years before RuPaul's MTV popularity). He was also the second popular television performer to dress in drag on a regular basis (Milton Berle being the first). Wilson presented black and white entertainers on TV in a way unprecedented until his show, giving African-American entertainers a mainstream showcase they had never had before.

THE FLIP WILSON SHOW won Emmy Awards® for Outstanding Variety Series and Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series. The show's guest list was a veritable who's who of entertainment and personalities of the time. Some of the many musical guests included Louis Armstrong, James Brown, Johnny Cash, Bobby Darin, Sammy Davis Jr., Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, The Jackson 5, and The Temptations. Among the notable comedians who appeared on the show were Lucille Ball, Jack Benny, George Carlin, Bill Cosby, Richard Pryor, and Lily Tomlin. Actors like Don Adams, Kaye Ballard, Albert Brooks, Raymond Burr, Diahann Carroll, Marty Feldman, Ted Knight, and Tony Randall were Flip's guests, as were such personalities as Muhammad Ali, Howard Cosell, Joe Namath, David Frost, Monty Hall, Ed McMahon, Marcel Marceau, Sugar Ray Robinson, and Ed Sullivan.
