International Travel: Northern European Tours

By Fran Walker

To undertake a northern European tour is to undertake a vacation like no other.

A tour of northern Europe might include Finland, Iceland and the Scandinavian countries (Norway, Sweden and Denmark).

Not surprisingly, these countries get very cold in the winter, when they are popular for skiing.

The most popular months for a northern European tour are between May and September, but these are also fabulous places to visit at Christmas time.

Northern European Tours

With long days and light nights, you can make every moment count in your northern European tour. Iceland, Greenland and Swedish Lapland really are winter wonderlands with plenty to offer whether you want to relax or test your endurance.

Highlights include sleigh rides, polar bear watching and, at Christmas, a chance to meet Santa Claus! If the outdoors and sports are for you, you can go trekking or climb Iceland’s highest peak. There are also plenty of outdoor activities, such as horse riding, to enjoy during a summer Scandinavian tour.

Denmark Tours

Denmark is the most southern of the Scandinavian countries. Tours of Denmark offer real variety, including culture and countryside. There is history aplenty with its large numbers of churches, castles and quaint villages.

Birthplace to Hans Christian Anderson, the capital Copenhagan is cosmopolitan enough to offer nightlife, history and culture to suit everyone.

Any time of the year is a good time for a northern European tour.
