Tucson: Apartments Guide

Finding an affordable apartment in Tucson

Students often rent the prime properties first

The best time to rent an apartment in Tucson is May through July and December. These are the months that students attending the University of Arizona are out of town. Student housing becomes more affordable and the drop in tenants can also lower rents citywide.

Renting an apartment near the U of A becomes more difficult in August and January when the students return by the thousands. Affordable apartments near campus main gate fill up fast. Some apartment complexes near the UA are booked months or semesters in advance. While studio apartment probably are cheaper, one bedroom apartments are often just bit more. Studio rates can sart at $400 and go up to $1000, depending on the age and location of the rental. Single bedroom and bath apartments can start at $600 or more.

Because of Tucson's reputation for lower priced housing and rental units, it is often several hundred dollars cheaper than comparable rentals in Phoenix, San Diego or Los Angeles. Room sizes are often larger in Tucson.
