Tucson closed out their season with a 7-2 loss to Salt Lake on Monday night in front of a crowd of 6,033 people

Salt Lake scored five runs in the first inning to open up a comfortable lead early in the game. A couple of Sidewinders mistakes brought in two of the Bees’ runs in the inning. The second run of the inning was scored on a wild pitch and the last run came on a throwing error, which allowed Adam Pavkovich to score. Dee Brown and Bobby Wilson brought in two more runs in the inning with RBI singles and a Gary Patchett sacrifice fly made it an early 5-0 lead for Salt Lake.

Tucson cut the Bees’ lead by four in the bottom of the first with a Josh Whitesell RBI double that scored Trent Oeltjen from second.

Both Salt Lake and Tucson scored a run in the sixth inning. Salt Lakes’ run came off a Terry Evans grounded out to second, which allowed Pavkovich to score again. Tucson’s Donnie Kelly hit a solo homerun to right with two outs to give the Sidewinders’ their one run. 

Whitesell’s RBI gave him 110 on the season, which passes Lyle Overbay's 109 mark from 2002 to make him Tucson's all-time franchise single season RBI record holder.

The Bees added one more run to extend their lead in the ninth from a Dee Brown RBI single. Salt Lake left Tucson on a positive note while heading to the playoffs against Sacramento.  For Tucson it was the final contest before the team moves to Reno, Nevada for the 2009 season.

Tucson Sidewinders last homestand Labor Day weekend

The Tucson Sidewinders will host the Salt Lake Bees for a 4-game series in the team’s last homestand of the season beginning Friday, August 29th at Tucson Electric Park. 

The team will take on the Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim during the culminating series of the season.  The 2008 season will be the last for the Sidewinders, who will move to Reno, Nevada in 2009.

The Labor Day weekend homestand will kick off with the first of two Fireworks Spectaculars, followed by the Toros Hat Giveaway on Saturday, August 20th when the first 1,500 fans with paid admission will receive a free Tucson Sidewinders school lunchbox.  The team will launch fireworks once again in celebration of Labor Day postgame on Monday, September 1st.

The Sidewinders went 3-7 on their most recent road trip to Salt Lake and Colorado Springs.  Outfielder Tim Raines, Jr. has been swinging a hot bat of late.  He has 9 multi-hit games in his last thirteen contests, hitting .577 (26-for-45) during the span.
