Fandango and Microsoft's Tellme to Launch Voice-Activated Mobile Application for Movie Information
New Service Delivers Local Fandango Theater Listings, Showtimes, Ticketing Info and Directions
Fandango, the nation's leading moviegoer destination, and Tellme, a Microsoft subsidiary, announced the addition of voice-activated movie information for mobile phones. Consumers will be able to simply hold down the 'talk' button, say a movie title or local theater name, and see showtimes, purchase tickets and get driving directions to the theater, all from the phone's screen.
This exclusive Fandango service, using global positioning system (GPS) technology to deliver local information right to the phone's screen, is initially available on BlackBerry phones and will rollout on future versions of Helio Mysto phones.
In the year ahead, moviegoers will be able to obtain a similar service for their GPS-enabled cars, eliminating the need for typing searches in vehicles. The new service will give consumers the information, directions and communication capabilities they need in a faster and safer way.
"This new Fandango-branded service furthers our goal of ubiquitous consumer access," says Chuck Davis, CEO of Fandango. "With advance tickets already on sale for blockbuster summer films like 'Iron Man', and 'The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian', it's a natural time to provide consumers with another fast and intuitive way to get the movie information they want, and allow them to buy tickets immediately."
