PUBLISHER PROFILE
Online publishing is the new frontier for most people, but I have been part of it since the early days when EMOL.org went online in January 1995.
My life long experience from junior high school editor to newspaper publisher has made it possible to now enjoy the best of both worlds- publishing without paper.
Before I started publishing on my own in 1977, I joined the staff of the Mountain Newsreal, one of the first alternative newspapers in the state. When Jonathan L decided to close the publication in 1985, he allowed me to use content from Newsreal in my newspapers. Now, it's featured in Newsreal Classics.
In 1978, I launched theYouth Awareness Press. As one of the first youth newspapers in the country, the Youth Awarensss Press created a media voice for young people in the community. The publication was supported with public grants in the early years. Nearly, 1,000 youth gained practical journalism skills while learning how to publish newspapers. Fundraising events like concerts, carnivals, movie screenings and advertising covered publishing costs when the grants ended.
The YAP evolved into the Tucson Teen in the early 1980s and then into the Entertainment Magazine in the mid-1980s.
I also spent nearly 15 years teaching journalism and newspaper publishing courses at the University of Arizona and five years at Pima College as the advisor of Pima College's student newspaper, The Aztec Press. Being on the Internet-cusp when I started teaching in the early 1990s, I developed and managed both journalism department's web sites.
In 1995, Entertainment Magazine morphed into Entertainment Magazine On Line (EMOL.org) and continues soley as an Internet publication with a million visitors a month from around the world. Tucson Teen continues virtually as Teen On Line.
In the past few years after teaching, I continued with EMOL.org and kept busy as an occassional freelance reporter for the Tucson Citizen's Tucson Business Edge and consultant for other publishers and companies in Tucson and Phoenix.
In 2006, BZB Publishing, Inc. was formed to manage my media properties.
When not busy publishing, I enjoy sushi, enka, Qabalah, hiking and swimming.
Thanks for visiting my web site and take a browse through the virtual Entertainment Magazine.
