Arizona Gives Day 2019: Act One
Tuesday, April 2, 2019
Arizona Gives Day (April 2), which is an annual movement uniting nonprofits (big and small, new and established), to celebrate and increase philanthropy in Arizona through online giving. Last year, this movement raised $3.2M for charitable organizations.
This year marks a monumental Arizona Gives Day for Act One, a non-profit dedicated to providing arts experiences to Arizonans statewide (including underserved K-12 students), with the core belief that absolutely everyone should have access to the arts. Act One’s two key initiatives have grown exponentially since the organization’s inception in 2011. Culture Pass has sky rocketed over the past 10 years, and the Act One Field Trip Program is now responding to an immediate in demand vs. supply issue.
While growth is important, it also magnifies the devastating need for arts education in Arizona.
· Act One’s Field Trip Program has taken 157,000 + Title 1 students on educational arts field trips since 2011. Last year, Act One brought more than 37,000 K-12 students on more than 86 performance field trips and nearly 100 museum field trips. But this school year, Act One encountered more demand than supply for the first time ever, receiving 65K+ field trip requests (despite only having capacity to host 43,000 students).
• Act One’s Culture Pass program (which turns 10 years old this year!), provides library cardholders across the state with free admission to participating cultural institutions or theater performances. Each year, more than 500,000 admission tickets are made available in Arizona through the Culture Pass Program, which is growing at a rapid pace. As of March 2019, 61 arts organizations statewide, and 48 libraries participate in the Culture Pass program, (with Pima Community College serving as the most recent library partner to sign up).
How is this relevant to Arizona Gives Day, and how can Arizonans help?
· Visit https://act1az.org, and clicking on the “Donate” button. What many people don’t know is how far a personal contribution can go in providing arts education and experiences. For example:
o By donating only $10 to Act One, you can send one Title 1 student on a life changing field trip experience.
o By donating $300 – you can send a whole classroom on a field trip experience.
