Arizona Women’s Chorus Recruiting Experienced Singers
TUCSON, AZ – The Arizona Women’s Chorus is recruiting singers for the upcoming arts season. This is an advanced level chorus so previous choral experience and an audition are required.
Rehearsals begin in September at Casas Adobes Congregational Church, 6801 N. Oracle Road.
The chorus was founded in 1981 as the Southern Arizona Women’s Chorus, then changed its name early in 2022 to the Arizona Women’s Chorus, according to longtime artistic director Terrie Ashbaugh. She has led the chorus since 1998, including its 2006 Carnegie Hall debut. She is also a professional pianist, vocalist and choral arranger.
Ashbaugh recently retired as director of worship and business manager at Ascension Lutheran Church and School. She received her bachelor’s degree in piano performance from the Seattle Pacific University and completed a master of music degree in conducting performance from the University of Arizona. She directed several choirs in Washington state before moving to Arizona. She is a member of Chorus America, American Choral Directors Association, Choral Net and the National Association of Teachers of Singing. She also composes and arranges music for her various choirs.
Before the COVID hiatus, the 70-plus member Arizona Women’s Chorus presented two major concert programs a year, plus numerous community outreach activities throughout the season. The repertoire spans from classical music to Broadway, folk, jazz, spiritual, seasonal and other popular songs.
