Ballet Tucson Suspends Performances

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, Ballet Tucson has made the painful decision to suspend performances and in-person fundraising events through the end of 2020. Ballet Tucson joins performing arts companies across the country in taking this unprecedented but necessary action. The continued health and safety of the professional dancers, staff, and audience members remain Ballet Tucson’s first priority. 

Ballet Tucson is aggressively pursuing every available solution to the drastic revenue loss resulting from COVID-19. Government assistance through the CARES Act, grants, and support from the Tucson community are all essential to protect Ballet Tucson’s long history of artistic excellence. 

“The loss is critical,” said Jim Allen, Ballet Tucson Board President. “The majority of our budget comes from earned income such as tickets and special events, so the complete loss of this revenue has been overwhelming. Longtime Ballet Tucson supporters, Larry and Florence Adamson have recognized this challenge and stepped up to assist with essential interim funding in the form of a challenge grant.”

For every dollar donated by the Tucson community, the Adamsons will match that gift with another dollar. The $100,000 emergency short-term fundraising campaign will allow for immediate continued basic operations and essential planning for a season re-launch in 2021. With performing arts venues closed through at least the end of 2020, it is unclear exactly when Ballet Tucson will be able to safely begin a new season.
