Blood Donations in January

Monday, January 1, 2018 @ 8:00 am - Wednesday, January 31, 2018 @ 5:00 pm MST

Jan. 1 – 15, 2018: Blood Donors Thanked with a One-Day Voucher to the Waste Management Phoenix Open
Casa Grande, Eloy, Picacho & Tucson Locations Announced – Help Replenish the Blood Supply Following the Lowest Week of the Year for Donations

More blood transfusions are required in January than any other month of the year. That’s why The Thunderbirds, the hosts of the Waste Management Phoenix Open, have stepped up to make sure the New Year starts out on par for patients across Arizona.

All Jan. 1 – 15, 2018 United Blood Services donors will receive a voucher for a free ticket to the Waste Management Phoenix Open in appreciation for replenishing Arizona’s blood supply following the holiday season. Billed as “The Greatest and Greenest Show on Grass,” the tournament will be held at the TPC Scottsdale from Jan. 29 – Feb. 4, 2018. To make a blood donation appointment, call 1-877-UBS-HERO (1-877-827-4376) toll free or visit (enter your City or Zip Code) – locations detailed below.

Waste Management Phoenix Open; Blood Donor Voucher Redemption
Jan. 1 – 15 blood donors simply enter the voucher promo code online by Jan. 19 to receive a ticket a few days later through the U.S. mail. Vouchers cannot be accepted at the tournament gate.

January donors will help people like Branden, who thanks to 72 blood donors, won his battle against cancer twice. When Branden injured his knee during high school hockey practice several years ago, his orthopedic surgeon thought he had torn a ligament. But an MRI showed a “hot spot” and additional tests revealed cancer. After three months of chemotherapy and more than 30 blood transfusions, Branden graduated on-time, but within a few months the cancer spread to his lungs. It took five surgeries to remove more than 50 nodules, which was followed by a stem cell transplant and daily blood transfusions for a month. Thanks to blood donors, today Branden is cancer free and his greatest love is being a father.

The partnership between United Blood Services and the Thunderbirds began more than a decade ago and has grown to become one of the most popular “thank you” gifts received by donors throughout the year. “We hope to encourage more blood donations while people are still focused on the spirit of giving,” said Sid Lewis, Senior Director of Donor Recruitment for United Blood Services Southwest Division. “The gift of life is the most important gift of all and doesn’t cost anything, except a little of your time.”
