39th Annual Cascabel Community Fair
December 7th and 8th 2019, 10 AM to 4 PM.
Drive downriver on our “way back” Cascabel Road for an adventure, great San Pedro Valley scenery, and a unique experience. Enjoy rural hospitality, history, high quality arts, homestead products, and live music under the mesquites in an awe-inspiring outdoor setting at the Cascabel Clayworks.
Fill up on homemade food and desserts and help our garden and orchard group and community center raise funds with great raffle opportunities, featuring our made-by-Cascabel-residents queen-sized quilt titled “Home”.
Cascabel Clayworks, a cottage industry and homestead established in 1970, hosts an open house for this event. Joining them will be many other fine artisans displaying their work in fiber, metal, wood, jewelry, clay, leather, photography and more. You will enjoy touring the wide variety of locally made products and fresh farm produce displayed under the mesquite canopy.
The Oasis Bird Sanctuary, a short walk from the Clayworks, will conduct tours of their exotic bird rescue facility again this year. Forever Home Donkey Rescue, 360 West Rockspring Lane, is also hosting a tour this year. This is a stop on the way to the Clayworks or on the way home. To get there, turn west off Cascabel road at mile 7.5 onto W Rockspring Ln between mile marker 7 and 8 at the sign for Gammons Gulch. (See Map)
Live Music adds to the ambience of this rural adventure!
Saturday December 7, 10 am to 1 pm: Oracle Ridge Band, Ric Volante and Vicky Smith play a danceable blend of classic country and roots-rock. Listen Here.
Saturday December 7, 1-4 pm: Way Out West with Emmy Creigh and Tom Poley, featuring banjo, guitar and vocal harmonies. Classic songs of cowboys, Hollywood’s singing cowboys, and their own mix of cowboy and Western tunes played with a bordergrass sound.
Sunday December 8, 10am to 12 pm. Evelyn Roper is here from Gunnison, Colorado visiting her childhood home in Cascabel, Arizona, presenting a blend of Americana, with an emphasis on story songs backed with Western or Country while Swing, Surf, and Rockabilly feed her driving beats.
Sunday December 8, 12-2pm. Jalopie Ramblers with Brian Grunkemeier and Patty Todd play a classic mixture of Blues, Swing, Country, Gospel, and Old Timey Music.
Directions to Clayworks: take I-10, exit 306, and go north through Pomerene, following the signs to just north of mile marker 20. The road is paved to mile marker 15, where it turns into a good dirt road. 2-wheel drive “city” vehicles are fine on this road. If you haven’t visited for a few years, we’d love to see you again—and if you’ve never been here, don’t miss this unique annual celebration of local talent and enterprise. Join us and enjoy a day with family and friends!
