A SPECIAL PEACE BUILDER JOINING US FROM ENGLAND: JO BERRY
Jo Berry, whose father was killed by an IRA bomb, has made a lifelong choice to create “Bridges to Peace”, both personally in how she lives her life and also in the name of a nonprofit she founded. When an IRA bomb, planted in the Grand Hotel in Brighton killed her father, Sir Anthony Berry MP, she had a choice. She could choose to harbor hatred and anger, craving revenge, or seek understanding and so bring peace back into her life.
Jo Berry’s extraordinary journey has led her to become an established ambassador for peace and reconciliation. She now often appears on stage with the very man who planted the bomb that tore her life apart. Jo and Patrick Magee first met in 2000 and the beginning of their relationship
was featured in a BBC program, “Everyman – Facing the Enemy”. They now work together sharing their story on their quest to inspire others to seek peace and reconciliation, while working towards putting an end to conflict and violence.
Following opening remarks by Jo Berry, participants will engage in a dialogue circle process to examine the impact of self-reflection as an important part of keeping our communities resilient, vibrant and life-affirming. Self-reflection is a part of many faith traditions, secular approaches to personal growth, and an integral aspect of peace-building, forgiveness, and restorative practices.
Community Conversations is one of several peace-building programs affiliated with the Culture of Peace Alliance (COPA), based in Tucson, AZ. Although there is no charge for Community Conversations, donations for Community Conversations and Community Food Bank are welcomed and much appreciated. Community Conversations only exists because of the generous support of individuals and organizations.
