Desert Diamond: Sawyer Brown
Saturday, November 18, 2017 @ 8:00 pm - 10:30 pm MST
Country music group, Sawyer Brown, is set to perform at Desert Diamond Casinos & Entertainment’s Diamond Center on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017. Tickets start at $15 and are on sale now through Star Tickets and at Desert Diamond Casino’s Rewards Center. Doors open at 7 p.m.; show starts at 8 p.m.
Founded in 1981 in Apopka, Florida, Sawyer Brown made its national television debut on the show “Star Search” in 1984, where it won $100,000 and landed a record deal with Curb Records. The band quickly rose to fame, releasing “Leona,” “Step That Step,” and “Betty’s Bein’ Bad,” which led to the group winning the County Music Association’s Horizon Award in 1985. They continued to release chart-topping hits—beginning with “The Walk” in 1991—that eventually earned them the Academy of Country Music’s top vocal group for the year in 1996.
Sawyer Brown has only lost and added only one member in its more than 17 years of recording and touring. Current members include lead vocalist Mark Miller, keyboardist Gregg Hubbard, drummer Joe Smyth, bassist Jim Scholten, and lead guitarist Shayne Hill. In all, Sawyer Brown has released 17 albums, among them two studio greatest hits packages and a Christmas album. A third best of collection, “The Hits Live,” was released in 2000 and included a remake of the 1980 Johnny Lee hit, “Lookin’ for Love.”
Treena Parvello, Director of Public Relations and Communications for the Tohono O’odham Gaming Enterprise, said, “Sawyer Brown is known for their high energy, groundbreaking music videos, and thought-provoking songs and performances! Desert Diamond Casinos & Entertainment is excited to share their love of music with Southern Arizona when they take the stage at the Diamond Center on Nov. 18!”
