Diamond Center: Johnny Rivers

Saturday, October 28, 2017 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm MST

Rock and Roll legend Johnny Rivers is making a return to Desert Diamond Casinos & Entertainment’s Diamond Center on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017. Tickets start at $15 and go on sale at 10:00 a.m. today through Star Tickets and at Desert Diamond Casino’s Rewards Center. Doors open at 7 p.m.; show starts at 8 p.m.

Born in New York City and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Johnny Rivers began playing professionally at age 14. In the early 1960s, Rivers hooked up with Jimmy Bowens and Capitol Records Producer Nick Venet and recorded his first album, “The Sensational Johnny Rivers.” In 1964, Rivers recorded “Johnny Rivers Live at the Whisky á Go Go” and released his first No. 1 single, “Memphis.” Two years later, after writing and recording his No. 1 hit “Poor Side of Town,” Rivers produced “Up, Up and Away,” which won two Grammys for Record and Song of the Year.

In the 1970s, Rivers returned with “Rockin’ Pneumonia & the Boogie Woogie Flu,” “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Help Me, Rhonda” (featuring Brian Wilson on vocals), and his classic “Slow Dancin’ (Swayin’ to the Music).” “Secret Agent Man” was featured in the popular films “Austin Powers” and “Bowfinger.” With 17 Gold Records, 29 chart hits, two Grammy Awards, and more than 30 million records sold, Johnny Rivers continues to perform worldwide.

Treena Parvello, Director of Public Relations and Communications for the Tohono O’odham Gaming Enterprise, said, “Johnny Rivers last performed at the Diamond Center in 2015 and we had so much fun we had to bring him back this year to play his hits in front of a Southern Arizona crowd on Oct. 28! Tickets start at only $15!”

Desert Diamond Casinos & Entertainment, with three locations in Southern Arizona (Tucson, Sahuarita, and Why) and one in the West Valley, is owned and operated by the Tohono O’odham Gaming Enterprise, an enterprise of the Tohono O’odham Nation.
