Jazz, Blues with Robin Bessier & Lexi Weege
Saturday, June 17, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 11:30 pm MST
An Evening of Jazz, Blues with Robin Bessier & Lexi Weege at the Sea Of Glass. On Saturday, June 17th, the Sea Of Glass—Center For The Arts presents an evening with sultry female jazz vocalists Lexi Weege from Massachusetts and Robin Bessier from Washington. With jazz styles as different and yet uniquely beautiful as the opposite coasts they hail from, this show is sure to satisfy jazz connoisseurs.
The female performing artist has long been objectified, controlled, censored, restrained. This is what Lexi Weege refuses to be. Her music is passionate, alive, awakened; the narrative of a woman unashamed of her desires and unafraid to seize control. Weege conjures up decadent scenes of the roaring twenties with her stellar voice and jazz-influenced compositions. Constantly touring, performing, and creating, Lexi Weege has a full-length album, “Virgin”, and a record, “Sweet Moon”, both recorded live to tape. Weege’s insistence on analogue recording is evidence of her passion for authenticity in her music. “With the confidence to throw her all into the circus ring of theatricality, Lexi Weege stamps the mark of a true performer.” ~ Bluesbunny.com
Jazz vocalist Robin Bessier’s repertoire is a kaleidoscope of Brazilian, Latin, Swing, Blues, Ballads, Bop, R&B, Gospel and Originals. Her vocal style is described by critics as “vibrant, warm, enticing, eloquent, buoyant, wistful, effervescent, and with impeccable phrasing and timing.” Robin’s first two full-length CDs met with critical acclaim. Her debut CD, “Other Side of Forever,” released in June 2013 immediately hit the top 40 jazz chart (CMJ) where it remained for several weeks. Her most recent CD, “Open Road,” released in June 2016, garnered international attention with all-original music.
Since moving to Tucson this past November, Robin has been embraced by the Tucson jazz community and will be backed by some of Tucson finest jazz instrumentalists. She looks forward to continuing to spread the joy of music in SW Arizona.
“The female vocal scene in modern jazz is a tightly clustered pack with no room for the faint of heart. Bessier demands a little elbow room as she settles in for what will hopefully be a long and successful stay.” CRITICAL JAZZ, Brent Black.
