Mighty F4U-1A “Corsair” Takes to the Skies

July 3, 2021 @ 10:00 am - July 6, 2021 @ 10:00 am MST

Kick Off Your Independence Day Holiday With Our Aerial Display!

The Mighty F4U-1A “Corsair” Takes to the Skies This Saturday!

It’s time to celebrate our Independence! And this year, we’ve got a lot to celebrate!

Join us for a great outdoor event this coming Saturday, July 3, 2021 when the Museum’s F4U-1A “Corsair” is featured for a Flying Demo.

Planes of Fame Air Museum’s F4U-1A “Corsair” is one of the oldest flying Corsairsin the world. It is a combat veteran of the Pacific War of World War II. And it’s a movie star, having recently completed filming segments for an upcoming major motion picture.

Here’s your chance to see this aircraft up close, hear her powerful 2,000 horsepower radial engine power-up, and watch her put on an aerial display over the Museum.

Museum doors open at 10:00am. The “Corsair” will be on display for up-close viewing and photographs until 11:30am.

The Flying Demo: A short presentation will begin at 11:45am followed by engine start and taxi at noon. The “Corsair” will then fly directly over the Museum for twenty minutes and return to the Museum. A brief Question and Answer segment with our pilot will follow at 12:30pm.

The Corsairs of WWII performed a variety of duties: air-to-air combat, close-air support, low-level bombing and strafing. They were fast and dangerous and earned the respect of the men who flew her and those she flew against. So powerful and versatile, they remained in service longer than any other fighter aircraft from the Second World War, serving in the Korean War and into the 1970’s with several foreign air forces.

Of the 12,571 “Corsairs” built from 1942 to 1952, only a handful remain. This is your opportunity to see (and hear!) a truly historic aircraft take flight.
Special discounted admission is still in effect. The “Corsair” is always a popular aircraft so plan on arriving early. We look forward to having you join us on Saturday, July 3, 2021 to see history take to the skies!

Lots to See and Do!

The flight of the Corsair is just one reason to spend this Saturday at Planes of Fame.

Walk through our hangars and see the nearly 100 aircraft in the Chino collection up close. Visit our B-17 “Flying Fortress” and literally step inside for a journey back in time. Challenge our Museum Guides with your questions, learn something new, introduce your kids to the fascinating world of aviation.

We’ve got “Java on the Go!” onsite to mix up some great coffee drinks and smoothies plus an assortment of snacks. We’ve got our “Living Historians,” re-enactors dedicated to preserving military history, on-hand as well. The Gift Shop is stocked with plenty of new items.

The Museum is open from 10:00am until 4:00pm. A lunch break at Flo’s Airport Cafe is always a great way to make your day extra special.
