The Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance (SAACA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the creation, preservation and advancement of the Arts. SAACA strengthens the bonds between people, place and purpose through collaborative, arts-driven experiences.
Southern Arizona has long served as a hub for arts and culture. Despite the deep profusion of talent, our creative community has found difficulties in making a living from their work as well as sharing it with the community.

From metalwork to locally-designed fashion, the open-air La Encantada Fine Art Market is an opportunity to support local artisans and fine art crafters while strolling the lush and ever-blooming garden walkways of the outdoor La Encantada Shopping Center. Artists are among some of the hardest hit during the pandemic, and we invite the community to come out to support their work and be inspired by their creativity, in a safe and socially distanced atmosphere.
AARP WEEKLY DIGITAL
AARP Arizona and SAACA are pleased to team up on a new virtual arts partnership to broadcast weekly performances and virtual arts experiences for their members and audience to enjoy on Facebook and Youtube. The weekly arts and culture partnership will offer three months of weekly free, online streamed concerts with performances ranging from Boogie Woogie, Bluegrass, to Bach and unique Arizona art tours with muralists and chefs. The partnership represents a unique community collaboration to support local artists while opening up new ways for audiences to enjoy and support beloved Arizona artists.
Every Wednesday at 6 PM starting September 30, residents can tune in from their smart phones, home computers, or Smart TVs by navigating to https://www.facebook.com/saaca/ and https://www.facebook.com/aarparizona to see performances of some of Arizona’s beloved classical and contemporary performers. Concerts and art tours will each be 30 – 60 minutes in length. After the broadcast, a video of the concert will remain available to view on AARP’s concert webpage and Youtube Channel.

The Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance, in partnership with underwriting sponsor Lisa Bayless / Long Realty have come together to collaborate on a Fall chalk art and community celebration to honor the ongoing service of local healthcare workers and first responders in Oro Valley. The one-day celebration will partner up with the Oro Valley Police Department, Golder Ranch Fire District and Oro Valley Marketplace to feature professional chalk art muralists creating stunning 5′ chalk murals on display as a drive-through, pop-up experience at Oro Valley Marketplace. The murals will feature uplifting themes of community, healthcare, and a celebration of public safety. Attendees can safely enjoy stunning colorful pop-up murals, participate in a costume contest from their cars, and receive prepackaged treat bags at the Oro Valley Marketplace parking area near Red Lobster.
Kids are encouraged to come dressed for Halloween, especially as the ‘heroes’ of first responders and healthcare that will be honored in the murals. Attendees who arrive in costume can also receive pre-packaged bags of candy as they drive through the activation area, wave to local fire-fighters, police officers and other first responders, and participate in a best face mask and costume competition with prizes from the safety of their vehicle.
Attendees can also compete in a “Best Face Mask” and costume competition both at the event and online. Oro Valley attendees that would like to submit a photo of themselves at the event or from home can post it on the Facebook event or email to [email protected] to compete. Cash gift cards of $250 will be awarded to the winners:

SAHUARITA CHALK ART ADVENTURE

The Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance and the Town of Sahuarita are inviting artists to hit the pavement, with chalk that is. In one day, an amazing collection of chalk artists will bring the park pavement to colorful life in the second annual Sahuarita Chalk Art Adventure. Attendees can watch professional artists create stunning murals in a variety of themes throughout the community, or grab a piece of chalk and make their own colorful addition at home. Get in on the chalk fun from home! We’ll be offering downloadable versions of the artist designs in a coloring page format starting November 2. Community members can also learn from several virtual tutorials pre-recorded by professional chalk muralists. Both the designs are video tutorials are available for download the week of the event online here. Community members are encouraged to create their own chalk art inspired by the day’s festivities. Participants can email a photo of their mural to [email protected] or post it to the official Facebook Event page with the Hashtag: #SahuaritaChalkArt. Three community winners will be chosen in each of the following categories and recognized on social media and receive a $50 gift card. Winners will be announced on the Monday after the event.

LET IT RING VETERANS DAY CONCERT & ONLINE BENEFIT AUCTION
An online auction will be held the week of the concert featuring hotel staycation packages, golfing getaways, handmade musical instruments including Native American style flutes from High Spirits Flutes, CDs, shirts, fine art paintings, gift cards and more. The online auction will be active November 10 – November 17 and items will be on display during the concert and live interviews. During the broadcast, viewers will be chosen live for additional door prizes and giveaways featuring items for local restaurants, stores and artists.
Let It Ring Veteran’s Day Concert

Get ready to turn up your speakers and raise the flag this Veterans Day in support of Veterans Music and Arts Therapy at the Let It Ring – Veterans Day Concert — LIVESTREAMED.
The FREE concert works to bring together a number of Veterans and musicians to present both live and pre-recorded performances ranging from soaring piano solos to foot tapping acoustic folk music. All donations from the concert go directly to support and grow music and arts therapy programs for local Veterans. The concert is presented in partnership with SAACA, Flutes for Vets, Warrior Songs, and Pazcka Digital.

The three-day POP Festival festival includes a series of socially distanced, pop-up experiences – featuring Arizona visual and performing artists, and outdoor recreation. The fourth annual festival will take on a socially distanced approach for arts experiences while supporting local artists who have been greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Attendees can experience outdoor live music and entertainment, a vintage market, a night run, and more. It all takes place at Kierland Commons and The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa.

The Sahuarita Holiday Artisan Market adds vibrancy to Sahuarita by creating opportunities for people of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds to experience the visual arts and support local artists. A MUCH NEEDED STORY OF CREATIVITY AND PERSEVERANCE
Local artist Ignacio Garcia is spending his time focusing on inspiration and creation.
“There were some ideas that I wanted to do, but something about it just didn’t feel right and you kind of lose hope, but I knew that something remarkable would come out of it,” Garcia said.
Frustration and stress became inspiration, and Garcia found the motivation he needed to pick up the brush in part from the raw energy and determination found in the social causes that are spreading across the U.S.

SAACA RELEASES FINDINGS FROM THE 2020 COVID-19 CREATIVE SECTOR SURVEY
The Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance has released findings from its new survey assessing how the Creative Sector in Southern Arizona has been impacted by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), and the results paint a significantly challenged picture, but also provide much needed insight from the sector on ways in which a rebuild and recovery phase might attain success in Southern Arizona.
SAACA RECEIVES AARP CHALLENGE GRANT FOR ARTS CARE PACKAGES
We have been selected as a 2020 AARP Community Challenge Grantee!
The Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance is thrilled to announce we have been selected to receive an AARP Community Challenge grant. We are one of only 184 grantees selected from across all 50 states, Washington D.C, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
With this “quick-action” grant we will expand our Arts Care Packages to be provided to over 1,000 seniors in Southern Arizona living in Assisted Living Communities, Hospitals and Hospice care programs.
“We are incredibly proud that AARP selected SAACA to receive this grant,” stated Executive Director, Kate Marquez. “AARP is a nationwide leader on making neighborhoods, towns, and cities more livable for all residents and we are honored that they see the tangible value this project will bring to our community.”
