Sahuarita Art on the Lake Festival

The inaugural Sahuarita Art on the Lake Festival will feature immersive and experiential activities throughout the Sahuarita Lake Park. Browse local artwork for sale, street painting, interactive art activities, performance art, community chalk mural competition, food trucks, and live music throughout the park. This one-day celebration of the arts will bring creativity to a new level in Sahuarita, AZ.

LIVE PERFORMANCES
Art on the Lake Festival will feature a full lineup of performances at the Sahuarita Lake Amphitheater. A colorful and unique blend of music, dance, puppetry and performance art will unfold throughout the day, including Mexican Folk Dance, immersive avant-garde, and classical symphonic music.

BEER & WINE GARDEN
Enjoy a cold beer, glass of wine or canned cocktail while browsing art, and listening to music at the festival. Special thanks to Hensley for providing a great assortment of libations for the event.




FLOATING ART INSTALLATION
Experience a one-of-a-kind floating art installation at the Art on the Lake Festival. Dozens of floating inflatable art pieces will sit atop the Sahuarita Lake during the festival. Be sure to snap a picture at one of our photo ops located throughout the park.




PUBLIC ART INSTALLATIONS
On January 14, Sahuarita Lake Park will burst with color and creativity as three large-scale art installations are unveiled.

TONY PLAK
Nogales muralist Tony Plak has created a larger-than-life 500 square-foot plus desert-themed ground mural on the Amphitheater Stage.

PEN MACIAS & WESLEY FAWCETT CREIGH
Sahuarita based artist Pen Macias has teamed up with Tucsonan Wesley Fawcett Criegh to design a massive chalk-letter mural spelling out SAHUARITA. Attendees can watch the two artists complete the mural during the event.




ART MARKETPLACE
Support local artisans, vendors and makers at the Art on the Lake Artist Marketplace. Over 30 artists will sell everything from sculpture to jewelry, handmade purses, and artisan foods.

PLEIN AIR PAINTING EXPERIENCE
The practice of “Plein Air” goes back for centuries but was truly made into an art form by the French Impressionists. Today, it’s a flourishing trend in the art world. Artists come together at the Art on the Lake Festival for a winter “paint out” to capture the beautiful Santa Cruz Valley at the Sahuarita Lake Park.

COMMUNITY CHALK ART COMPETITION
​Community members are encouraged to create their own chalk art inspired by the day’s festivities! Participants can sign up at the event to create their own signature mural onsite. Chalk and supplies will be provided onsite. Three community winners will be chosen at 3:30 PM in each of the following categories and recognized on social media and receive a $100 gift card.

YOUTH ART ACTIVITIES
Youth Printmaking Station with See Create Art (Sophie Ellefson) – 10 AM – 4 PM
Students will have the opportunity to design their own image, trace it onto printing foam, and then print it 4 times on paper using different colors. They will use brayers to roll the ink out, and barens to press the image onto the paper.

Facepaint, Balloon Animals and Caricatures with Petunia and Pals – 10 AM – 4 PM

Comicbook Mobile
A personalized kids show with a human cartoon character LIVE! Frank Powers teaches the simple shapes hidden in cartooning as well as the sequence of a good panel to panel stories for Comic Books and Comic Strips.
