The GVR Foundation, in partnership with Green Valley Recreation, Inc. Registration begins January 6 for the month long, multi-sport games March 1-30 in Green Valley, Ariz.

The Southern Arizona Senior Games annually hosts more than 1,000 participants hailing from nearly 40 states and Canada who compete in 30 athletic, intellectual and “just for fun” events at GVR recreation and wellness centers and other venues in Green Valley.

Gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded to winners of events, which include tennis and pickleball tournaments, card games, swimming, volleyball, chess, powerlifting, golf skills, a 5K run and 2K walk, and a modified triathlon, among many others.

Entry fees per event range from $5-$10 in addition to the registration fee, which includes an event t-shirt. Registration booklets and forms are available at all GVR centers. Participants may register in person at any one of GVR’s staffed centers or by mail by completing and returning the registration form along with their check payable to GVR Foundation. The deadline for registration is Feb. 18.

The GVR Foundation and GVR will welcome contestants with a kickoff event from 9-11 am on Tuesday, March 1 at GVR’s West Center, 1111 W. Via Arcoiris. The games conclude on March 30 with a closing recognition event at 1 pm at GVR’s Desert Hills Center, 2980 S. Camino del Sol.

This year, the GVR Foundation became the parent organization for the senior games. Kino Landing is the 2016 contributing sponsor, providing financial underwriting to support costs associated with presenting the games.
