Southern Arizona Women’s Chorus Presents “Tibetan Sound and Psalms”
Friday, December 21, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm MST
The winter concert of the Southern Arizona Women’s Chorus is titled “Tibetan Sound and Psalms.”
“This experience is a combination of the singing of a variety of Psalms in both Hebrew and English and being ‘bathed in sound’ with gong, singing bowls and other Tibetan instruments,” said Terrie Ashbaugh, longtime artistic director of the chorus.
Tucsonan Danielle Dvořák, a lifelong musician, visual artist and a certified healing sound practitioner, will be featured on the Tibetan instruments.
This program will be presented twice – on Saturday, Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Monastery, 800 N. Country Club, and on Sunday, Jan. 13 at 3 p.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1220 W. Magee. Tickets are $20 at the door or online at www.southernarizonawomenschorus.org. Call (520) 404-3148 for more information.
Unlike the fast-paced winter holidays, this program offers an opportunity to be bathed with sound and peace,” Ashbaugh said.
The 70-plus member chorus presents two major concert programs a year, plus numerous community outreach activities throughout the season, including some daytime and some evening programs. SAWC is pronounced like saucy. “We are saucy women having a fine time singing together,” Ashbaugh said.
She has led SAWC since 1998 and conducted the chorus in its 2006 Carnegie Hall debut. The chorus’ roots date to 1981.The repertoire spans from classical music to Broadway, folk, jazz, spiritual, seasonal and other popular songs. SAWC is a member of Chorus America and the Arizona Choral Arts Association, which Ashbaugh founded. She also is director of worship and business manager at Ascension Lutheran Church and School.
