Southwest Folklife Alliance Hosts Screening and Discussion of Short Film on Food, Water and Traditional Knowledge in Arid Lands on April 23, 2017 from 2-3:30pm at The Loft Cinema, 3233 East Speedway Boulevard. This event is free and open to the public.
SFA’s monthly Culture & Society Learning Exchange features the screening of a short film from the UA College of Social & Behavioral Sciences (Director: Anna Augustowska. Running time: 15:19). The film highlights multigenerational, community-based, and culturally embedded models of food and water sustainability in arid lands from practitioners and teachers of Indigenous and Traditional Knowledge from the Southwest and around the globe. Dr. Maribel Alvarez facilitates a post-film discussion with local experts from the film: Dr. Patrisia Gonzales, UA Dept. of Mexican American Studies and the Native American Research and Training Center; Melodie A. Lopez, President of Indigenous Strategies, LLC.; and Imelda Cortez, Tierra Y Libertad. Tucson organizations Iskashitaa Refugee Network and Native Seeds/SEARCH will be on site sharing products, edibles, and information.
