Tubac Free Family Friendly Village-Wide Festival

Along the Santa Cruz River—We Live Here! is a day-long, village-wide, free, family friendly festival with an array of discovery happenings in celebration of the bi-national Santa Cruz River in Tubac, Arizona, being held on Saturday, November 9, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The festival is a full day of discoveries and hands-on experiences offered by regional non-profit organizations, artists and musicians on, along and about the Santa Cruz River and its habitat, inhabitants, haunts and heritage.
The line up of events includes guided tours, bird walk, art exhibits, children and teen activities, a scavenger hunt, open houses, presentations and talks, slide shows, a folk concert and informational exhibits and booths all about the Santa Cruz River. The event locations will radiate from the Smithsonian Institution’s national WaterWays exhibit at the Tubac Presidio State Historic Park in the heart of Old Town Tubac’s National Historic District to indoor and outdoor venues along the Santa Cruz River and throughout the village proper. A schedule of events will be available at the Tubac Center of the Arts, the Tubac Presidio State Historic Park, Lowe House ProjectArtist Residency and Tubac Community Center.
Along the Santa Cruz River–We Live Here is a celebration with a purpose—to expand awareness and educate people reliant on this waterway’s resources of their shared responsibility to ensure the future of the cultural and environmental life sustaining gifts the Santa Cruz River provides.
Participating organizations include the Tubac Presidio State Historic Park, Tubac Center of the Arts, Lowe House Project Artist Residency, Tubac Community Foundation, Friends of the Santa Cruz River, Tubac Nature Center, Tubac Historical Society, Tubac Community Garden, Tubac Rotary Club, Montessori de Santa Cruz, Rio Rico Historical Society, Global Communications Community Alliance, Friends of Sonoita Creek, Desert Harvesters, Save the Santa Ritas, Patagonia Area Resource Alliance, Tucson Audubon Society, Tucson Wildlife Center and NPS–Tumacacori National Historical Park. Numerous artists and musicians will be sharing their interpretations of the Santa Cruz River through their creative works including Arizona Troubador, Ted Ramirez in concert. Among the presenters of Informational talks are Gayle Hartmann of Save the Santa Ritas, Carolyn Shafer of Patagonia Area Resource Alliance, Sherry Sass of Friends of the Santa Cruz River and archaeologist Deni Seymour with Tony Burrell and David Tenario.
