Tucson Celtic Festival and Scottish Highland Games

Once a year…haggis comes to town! The Tucson Celtic Festival and Scottish Highland Games will celebrate its 31st year this November with more merriment and festivities than ever before. Celebrate the heritage and culture of the Celtic Nations, such as Ireland, Scotland and Wales just as it has been done for centuries with great music, athletics, food and fun.

Twelve food and beverage vendors will cater to an estimated 5,000 people over the 2 ½ day festival. Patrons of the festival enjoy haggis made from high quality Highland cattle from a farm in Kansas, Scottish Meat Pies, classic fish & chips, Welsh Cakes and much more.

PIRATE PUB NIGHT

Come dressed in your best pirate garb and join us for the celebration! The evening features the Best Legs in a Kilt Contest hosted by Flanagan’s Celtic Corner, Games, Scavenger Hunt, Fortune Teller, Scottish Clan Torchlight Ceremony, Celtic Food, Beer & Vendors and more. Music by Cockswain. Proceeds from the 2017 festival benefit Tucson Community Food Bank and Youth On Their Own.

Visitors will enjoy musical performances all throughout the day at two stages, an array of unique Celtic merchants & eateries, Scottish clans, heritage and cultural booths, educational workshops, Highland athletic competitions and more.

A Mass Pipe Band will lead the opening ceremony at 12:00 on Saturday. Students from Maguire Academy of Irish Dance and Celtic Steps will perform on Saturday and Sunday. Competitions in Scottish Highland Dance will take place on Saturday at the Highland Dance stage.

Musical guests include Swagger, Highland Way, Aris, Out of Kilters, Steam, Sophia Harp Circle, John Good and Cockswain.

Children’s activities will include games, jumping castles, storytelling and even a Highland Games just for the kids! Tickets and wristbands for these events available in the kid’s area, not included in the price of admission. Children ages 7 – 13 can participate in the Youth Highland Games where they can throw cabers just like the grown-ups on Saturday and Sunday beginning at 2PM, FREE to enter.

The Tucson Celtic Hammerheads present the Southwest Master’s Championship Highland Games Athletic Competitions featuring over 60 amateur athletes in caber toss, weight for height, weight for distance, the Braemar Stone and sheaf toss all day Saturday and Sunday. The Tucson Celtic Hammerheads will host the Southwest Master’s Championship Highland Games on Saturday, all other athletes compete Sunday. Athletes come from all over the world to compete here in Tucson…including a competitor from Japan.

Saturday night’s concert will feature musical guest Celtic rock band, “Swagger” and a special Fire Dance performance by Cirque Roots!

Tour the whisky regions of Scotland with fine single malt Whisky Tasting Seminars for only $15 per person. Learn more about whiskies of Scotland in one of several entertaining and educational seminars.

DIRECTIONS TO FESTIVAL FROM I-10 Take Exit 250 at Orange Grove Rd east to First Ave. Turn right (south) and continue past River Rd where you will see signs for the General Public Festival Entrance on the east(left) side of the street. Rillito Raceway is located at 4502 N. First Ave at River Road. A map to the event can be found on our website.

We are an all-volunteer non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose purpose is to preserve Celtic customs and traditions in Southern Arizona and to produce the annual Tucson Celtic Festival and Scottish Highland Games.
Festival Policy on Animals and Firearms Sorry, NO PETS OF ANY KIND are allowed at the Festival…except Service Animals of course! Guests are not permitted to bring Firearms onto the Festival site.
