Tugo Bike Share Catalina Park
Friday, November 17, 2017 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm MST
On Friday, November 17 at 12:30 p.m., Tugo Bike Share, Tucson’s new bike share program, will begin service with a launch party at Catalina Park, 900 North 4th Avenue. The event will be emceed by Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild.
At 12:30 p.m., Mayor Rothschild will lead a ride-out, where he and a large group of volunteer cyclists will pedal Tugo bikes from Catalina Park to some of the 36 self-service, solar-powered bike share stations in the downtown and University areas. Collectively, Tugo Bike Share stations will make more than 300 bikes available for daily or monthly rentals. Annual passes are also available.
To increase awareness, Tugo Bike Share will, with the generous backing of our supporting sponsor Caterpillar, provide Free Ride Tuesdays for the entire month of December. This means that every Tuesday, people can take a bike for unlimited 30-minute rides from docking station to docking station for zero dollars. There will still be a charge, however, if rides exceed 30 minutes. Further details will be available shortly and will be posted at TugoBikeShare.com.
In launching Tugo Bike Share, Tucson will be joining more than 50 American cities that already have a bike share program. Approved by the Tucson City Council in June 2016, the bike share system will be operated by Shift Transit, with equipment and technology provided by PBSC Urban Solutions. Together, they’ve deployed more than 50,000 bikes in cities around the world, including Columbus, Chicago, Detroit, and Toronto. In 2017 alone, Shift Transit customers have taken more than one million rides via the company’s bike share systems across North America.
Tugo Bike Share is seeking volunteer cyclists to pedal the bikes from Catalina Park to various docking stations in the Downtown and University areas. The launch will include a ride-out, led by Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild.
