Valley of the Moon: Sherlock Holmes
Friday, October 6, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - Sunday, October 29, 2017 @ 9:00 pm MST
Do you believe in magic? This October the greatest detective in the world visits Valley of the Moon! Can Sherlock Holmes use logic to prove that magic isn’t real?
For 85 years Valley of the Moon has been bringing magic to life through interactive walking adventures in the park. George Phar Legler, Valley of the Moon’s founder, first offered fantasy tours to children in 1932. In the 1970s his one-man show grew into the elaborate performances of today. More than 50 volunteers of all ages have come together to produce this month of homespun magical entertainment for Arizona families.
Sherlock Holmes is a theatrical adventure where 35 people at a time are guided through the 2.3 acre park on a walking tour. At each stop along the way the Valley of the Moon cast brings the story to life as the audience becomes part of the story in turn. Valley of the Moon has been perfecting this unique form of immersive and participatory storytelling for generations.
Valley of the Moon is a Tucson Historic Landmark and Sherlock Holmes is their biggest fundraiser of the year. All proceeds go to the operation, preservation, and improvement of the park.
On Sunday, October 8th, tickets are ½ off with the donation new or gently used clothing for GoodTHREADS, a philanthropic arm of Goodmans Interior Structures.
Members of the media are invited to attend a private dress rehearsal on Friday, September 29th, 2017 at 6 p.m. RSVP to [email protected]

Valley of the Moon was built by George Phar Legler between 1923 and 1932. The magical wonderland is dedicated to the idea that “Kindness is the Golden Key to Happiness.” Valley of the Moon was listed on the Arizona Register of Historic Places in 1975, the National Register of Historic Places in 2011, and designated a Tucson Historic Landmark in 2015 (the first new Tucson Historic Landmark in 20 years!). It has been operated, maintained, and managed by volunteers since 1973.
