WONDERSPACES: SCOTTSDALE LOCATION TO REOPEN FRIDAY JUNE 26

–Scottsdale Fashion Square location will feature nine new installations upon reopening–

Wonderspaces, a popular Arizona art show designed for a broad audience, reopens its permanent location in Scottsdale Fashion Square on Friday, June 26. Upon reopening, the show will feature 13 artworks, 9 of which are new to the 16,000 square foot space. New artwork will continue to rotate-in throughout the year, featuring an ever-changing stream of extraordinary art.

Wonderspaces launched in 2016 to bridge the gap between artists and new audiences. The company presents curated works that have been shown at international art events and festivals such as the Sundance Film Festival, Burning Man, and SXSW. Wonderspaces partners with artists to deliver their art to broader audiences than it would otherwise reach.

“From day one, we’ve been on a mission to present art shows that serve as a safe, welcoming, and local destination for extraordinary creativity,” says Wonderspaces’ co-founder and president, Jason Shin. “We believe an art show can be a place to gather and connect with friends and family that is as accessible as the neighborhood movie theater, and as safe as the current health situation requires.”

As circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic continue to evolve, the health and safety of the visitors, team, and community are the top priority. The company has adopted comprehensive health and cleanliness protocols consistent with government recommendations, including:

• limiting capacity,

• requiring face coverings be worn by visitors and team members,

• selling tickets online only and eliminating all cash transactions,

• making hand sanitizer readily available throughout the show,

• checking temperatures at check-in,

• cleaning commonly touched surfaces frequently, and

• utilizing plexiglass barriers wherever there is regular interaction between the team and visitors.

Below are a few art installations visitors can expect to see at Wonderspaces Arizona:

Rainbow Rooms by Pierre le Riche

Rainbow Rooms recreates a home scene in which the objects are covered with various fabrics and multi-colored yarn. The installation reflects the artist’s experience growing up as a gay man in conservative South Africa, and is intended to stimulate a dialogue about identity, exploring struggles of discrimination, acceptance, and masculinity. Pierre le Riche is an artist from Cape Town, South Africa. He works in sculpture and installation, and does not consider himself a specialist in any one medium or with any one material.

Into The Breath by Stefano Ogliari Badessi

Into the Breath is a Chinese dragon made of tea bags. Visitors enter inside and are invited to enjoy the calm atmosphere. It is a meditative environment for reflection. With his artwork, Stefano invites his audience into surreal scenarios. To create his artworks, he often reimagines waste or uncanny supplies to craft installations that play with light, transparency, shape, and color.

Experiment 2.C by Dan Goods & David Delgado

Experiment 2.C explores various notions of awe for a viewer to experience – a sensation of vastness, an inability to define the surrounding environment, and the feeling of being surrounded by one object with endless variability. Dan Goods & David Delgado are the creators of the Museum of Awe, a concept for the presentation of mesmerizing installations that invite viewers to marvel in the world around them. Each installation will draw attention to the everyday parts of life – previously-seen objects, environments, or moments which may have been overlooked. They intend to ignite curiosity and remind us to treasure the gift of being alive.

After running limited hours its first week, Wonderspaces’ hours of operation will be Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday 12-10pm, Saturday 10am-10pm, Sunday 12-7pm, and closed Tuesday.
