Newport Beach is nestled 50 miles south of Los Angeles and 85 miles north of San Diego. Daytime temperatures average mid-70 degrees during the summer, and only dip to the high-60s in winter. Evening temperatures seldom fall below 50 degrees year-round. About 10 inches of winter rain falls annually.

Newport Beach, incorporated in 1906, is a city in Orange County, California, 10 miles south of downtown Santa Ana. In 2007, there were 84,218 residents in Newport Beach.

Newport Beach's beach's

The beach is open for the public from the hours of 6am to 10pm. There is excellent fishing from both piers as well as restaurants located on the ends of both piers. The piers are normally open from 6am to midnight.

  • Newport Beach Municipal Beach stretches from Newport Pier to the Santa Ana River Jetty and boasts ideal bodysurfing conditions, great surfing and sand volleyball courts. The nearby boardwalk is often busy with Rollerbladers, runners, skateboarders and bicyclists.
  • Corona del Mar Beach, a popular snorkeling spot, offers fire pits and grills, picnic tables and showers.
  • Big Corona Beach provides the ideal location for a family retreat with fire rings, a snack bar and restrooms.
  • There are also a variety of serene Bay Beaches, perfect for families, in and around Newport Beach.
  • Balboa Island offers beaches at the end of each street and the Balboa Peninsula provides a quiet area sheltered from the wind with a lifeguard tower, restrooms, showers and parking.

Many of the city’s restaurants are located along the waterfront, but even several of those set back from the coast offer panoramic views of the area’s picturesque landscape with more than 350 restaurants to choose.

Balboa Island is an artificial island in Newport Harbor dredged and filled right before World War I. The Balboa Island Ferry transports cars, bicycles and pedestrians across the harbor channel between Balboa Island and the Balboa Peninsula. Read more about Balboa Island, California.
