Top Gaming President Discusses the Secret to Her Company's 100 Million Global Sales Milestone

April 2008 (Medialink) - Video games are at an all-time high. According to a report released by the NPD Group, 72% of the U.S. population plays video games. Many game creators focus on science-fiction and fantasy.

However, one game has become a cultural phenomenon - selling 100 million globally with an entirely different approach. The best-selling PC game franchise of all time puts creativity into the hands of the player. It was also the first video game franchise to broaden gaming's appeal to women.

Players are hungry to customize the content of their games, from modifying their cars, their homes, their wardrobes to creating a family or an entire community.


Nancy Smith, the president of The Sims Label, discusses trends in the gaming industry - plus the company's 100 million global sales milestone and the secrets of their success in the interactive entertainment industry. video gamesNancy Smith is president of The Sims Label. Nancy led the organizational experiment that created The Sims as an independent label within Electronic Arts, Inc. (EA). She has been with The Sims Label since September of 2005. She has been part of the EA global evolution since 1984.

Prior to joining The Sims Label, she held roles as the executive vice president and general manager of North American publishing since 1998. Before this, Ms. Smith was an executive vice president of North American sales for Electronic Arts Inc. since 1996.

She served as a senior vice president of North American sales and distribution from July 1993 to October 1996, as vice president of sales from 1988 to 1993, as Western regional sales manager and national sales manager of Electronic Arts Inc. since 1984. Nancy was also named one of the foremost women executives by Forbes and Fortune. She is a Southern California native, but currently resides in the San Francisco Bay Area.
