Moses receives the Oral Tradition

When Moses received the Ten Commandments– the “Written Law”– on Mt. Sinai about 1440 BCE during the Exodus from Egypt, legend claims he also received another, more sacred, knowledge that was not written in stone.

This is the “Torah Shebaai Peh,” the Oral Tradition. Tradition says that Moses acquired the wisdom of the letters along with the Ten Commandments.

Moses verbally transmitted this sacred knowledge to Joshua, who passed it on to the Elders and prophets. This collective knowledge became part of the Kabbalah.
